Wrapping Rims in Vinly

Has anyone ever tried this? I am going to attempt to do this tomorrow to my sport rims and would like to get feedback from anyone thats ever tried it. Looks pretty simple but you never know... Thanks Guys!

Wonder how it will handle wheel heat from brakes etc.

Coundn't see that holding up to the elements.

 

I would be afraid it wouldn't hold up. Especially if you use a pressure washer like me to clean your wheels. It's worth a shot though. If it doesn't work, just get em powder coated.

 

This is only temporary until I get the money for a new set of rims and tires. The guy who put this video together also posted a video 6 months after (supposively) and they appeared to be still in good condition... Its either this approach or the spray plasti dip spray

 

Perhaps you should consider Plasti-Dip spray coating?

 

That's a lot of work... Rattle can works pretty darn good imo!

 

I can't see how vinyl can be better than rattle can if you are looking for cheap and temporary.
But give it a shot and let us know what the deal is.

 

IMO- I would rattle can your wheels instead, unless you want to burn your hands and or potential have ugly air bubbles and lifting from sun expore, air on free way, etc..... Either way Good Luck!

what is rattle can? is that similiar to plasti-dip?

 

Rattle Can = Spray Paint

 

I'm going on a couple months of plati-dipped wheels. I'm surprised how well they are holding up.

The only time its a pain is when a impact socket hits the wheel around the lung nut, that usually tears gashes in it...

But, I just keep a can in the truck, couple blast and its good as new.

 

Hay guys, portabuddy here, the dude that posted the video. recently i have ran across a few ppl that are interested in this. the vinyl is really tough... it can withstand rash really well. not rock rash but trees stumps and shrubs yes!, no problem. this stuff is also verry non-stick. so if you like to go mudding you can easly hose them off with no worries.

I like to cote them with a quick detailer speed wax and they come clean in the rain.

 

here is the same process on a Z06 vette,


and on a amg rim too. this one i gave a gloss black inlay, looked sick once it was done!


both had to be done in three parts, unlike my simple flat faced rims. the sides of the spokes had to be done seperatly, then the lip seperatly and finally the face. the seams are un-noticable, the matte black has that iridescence shine to it that hides the seams and imperfections.

trim pieces can also be wrapped too. like this front grill.



also it stands up pretty well to the elements, such as salt!

Not every car looks good in matte black. My car isn't mean enough, I do have the roof done and a carbon hood to go with it. No one has stepped up with the money and time to wrap a car yet. Since it takes a good 3 days to properly wrap a car.

yes and no. you can get matte black vinly pretty much anywhere but if youe want this one i can send some out to you guys. Not the first set. lol.
