While I’ve been waiting for my truck to arrive it seems the used prices are still climbing. Up in Canada where I am prices are stupid for used. I’m getting a TRD
Sport DCSB 6mt premium. For 1k below msrp plus a good trade value on my 16 VW. Up here MSRP is 48ish CDN. I see 19’s, 20’s and 21’s used for more. The dealer I bought mine from had a used 20 same truck but auto for 54k and it sold within 48hrs. I’m wondering if anyone has ever thought about just selling their allocation back to the dealer for more and just wait for another.

If the dealer wanted to, they got many ways to screw you out of your allocation.

You really don't have anything to sell. The dealer can just say "sorry, we can't fill your order" and return your deposit. You could take delivery then sell it as a used truck, essentially flipping it and taking the profit. I guess it depends how badly you need a new vehicle.

Buying from a dealer only to turn around and sell it provides plenty of motivation for the dealer to mark up the price even worse. Keep that in mind.

Until you have keys and title in hand, all you have is a pinky promise that the dealer is gonna sell you a truck. Once you have keys and title in hand, you have a used truck. I am sure there are people out there, slimy enough to try to pull off this type of scam, but it wouldn't be something I would be interested in doing.

People do it all the time on the C8 Corvettes. But they are typically selling the allocation (order) to another buyer, not the dealer.

Do you have a contract? What do your contract terms say?

Seems like a good way to lose money.

Say you do make $$ on the sale. The next truck will eat any gains due to its price is rising also.

In the end, it is very hard to make money swapping with that method.

    Good Luck.

I’m not interested in doing this, as I’ve waited long enough and don’t want to wait any longer. As of late though I’ve seen a lot of used popping up with stupid markups and selling. I’m just glad I was able to get one. Should be here in a few weeks. I’m getting a windchill. But the dealer just got an Army Green 6mt and a blue one. Told me if I didn’t want to wait I could take either one. It is definitely strange times right now as one dear I drove by yesterday had 0 yes 0 new cars.
