I noticed a pretty annoying squeak after I step on the brake.
It happens even when the truck is parked.
I was pumping the brake to try and locate the sound. It seems like it comes from under the truck toward the rear.
It squeaks upon lifting my foot, even if I only depress the brake a short distance.
Any ideas on the cause and a fix?

It may be the brake shoes rubbing against the backing plate. Remove the drum, clean and grease the contact areas where the shoe touches the backing plate.

Note: Do not grease the brake linings. Just where the shoes rub against the plate.

A friend of mine fixed it...seems like it was pretty much what you said.
He called it "the bosses are dry" he sanded off some surface rust and greased up the bosses (whatever they are) and voila....no squeak.

When you remove the drum on the backing plate you will see raised areas around the plate where the brake shoes will rub against the plate as they move. Grease those points.
