Scraping sound after 6” lift.

Scraping sound after 6” lift installation. I previously had a 3” spacer lift on 33’s with 20x10 rims no sounds or issues. I then put 35’s on my truck with the 3” lift no issues or sounds.

Today I got a 6” suspension lift installed after getting it aligned it makes a loud scraping sound, the sound gets louder when breaking. Sounds like it’s coming from the front driver side. Any thoughts or input would be greatly appreciated.

 

My first thought is the dust shield behind the rotor. Just bend it back away from the rotor and see if that helps. Hell, I've had to use a stick on a trail to poke through the wheel and shove it back a little. I don't know why it would've gotten tweaked during an alignment but it's easy and fast to fix and see if it's the culprit. If you got it installed and aligned at the same time, that would make a lot more sense.

 

I'm thinking it has to do with the 6" lift.

I had a similar sound, it was something to do with the dust shield, and clips used to help align the brake pads during installation

I had the installation completed today as well as the alignment.

 

I'm almost certain it's the dust shield then since that gets taken off and reinstalled during the process. It's as simple as poking something through the wheel and bending it back. Or laying down and reaching in and pulling it back a hair.

 

I will be adding spidertrax 1.25” spacers tomorrow or when ever they arrive.

I wasn’t aware Tacoma had a dust cover.

 

That'll be an easy time to fix it then. I apologize if you already know what we're talking about, but in case you don't, this is what we're referencing. It's a thin metal shield directly behind the rotor.

If you're going to remove it, I would fully remove it, which requires taking the hub and bearing assembly off. I would just bend it back and call it good. It's this whole piece in red so it's not something you can easily cut off. Pictured below is what you would see if you took off the caliper and rotor.

edit: no, they're not required for the brakes to function. I removed mine because offroad going through muddy water, shit would get trapped between the shield and rotor and cause annoying noises.

 

You just need to bend it away from the rotor, it is very thin metal.

Do u find your inside faces rust easier or is it a non issue? Not living in the rust belt, it amazes how bad some of that shit gets haha

 

To be honest, I have no idea at all, I've never looked. Luckily where I'm at, snow is minimal which means no salting of the roads, plus Betty White stays parked most of the time.
