What Have You Done To Your 3rd Gen Today?

Man, I'm sure they are exhausted. I'm a surgical nurse myself, I can't even imagine what the local hospitals are going through right now. Sending healing vibes from the Pacific Northwest.

 

I installed a BedSlide this afternoon in my short bed. (1) of the bed bolts wouldn’t come loose using my wireless impact wrench, or using 150psi on my air ratchet. To get the bolt out I ended up using my ratchet, WD-40, leverage, two hands, and pulled like I was rowing a boat. For the last few hours I’ve been telling my wife how damn strong I am

Couple things of note on the BedSlide. They have a no-drill kit that’s mislabeled on their website but worked fine on a 2021 short bed. I had to manually find it under accessories. It’s damn expensive for what amount to a small amount of steel but I have no intention of drilling holes in the truck bed so it was an easy decision.

The install required a few different size Allen wrenches, Torx T55 bit, ratchet, or pliers that you’ll need to source, but otherwise the rest of the hardware was there in the box. It’s a tight fit when shutting the slide I need to give it a push to make sure it locks. All that said, I’m happy with it so far and will update if there are any problems you all should be aware of.

This install required modification.
Lower clip was garbage, after several failed engagement attempts I installed a nut-cert. After that, bolt went in first try.
The alignment on the lower hole was about 1/2 inch too low. I used a step bit to bore out the hole and ditched the insert .
after all that finagling…
Issue with both caps not having positive engagement. Emailed ktjo 12/11/21 with explanation, pictures, and receipt.
Also note the caps are a lighter color.

* I did read everyone’s nightmare experience and against better judgement still purchased the handle. I was hoping the handle would help with my bad back.

 

my 2020 SR5 DCSB V6 has 15k miles...I decided to change the differential fluid and was surprised there was decent amount of metal debris on the drain plug.

Looks clean. Now you can sell the bed mat that no longer has a home.

 

Installed some CaliRaised ambers for next time I hit the dirt and debadged the "Tacoma" and "SR5" badges.

 

Did the same thing just a few days ago. Black on black on a midnight black truck. Looks fairly sharp, I think.

I'm glad to see I'm not the only person that removed all three headrests in the back.

UCAs are on!

 

It definitely makes it easier to see the corners of the bed when changing lanes on the interstate. I just stuck them behind the larger of the two rear seat sections. Fits perfectly.

 

Damn that looks so good. What’s your wheel setup? Spacers and UCA? I need a good alignment in AZ, will have to check them out.

 

it does not work with the radar cruise control, but if you put the truck into constant speed cruise control, the tune will be active. Oem tune on the radar cruise. Apparently Toyota has that portion of the ecu locked tight like a dogs pucker hole in water. Hahaha

 

Installed a Cali Raised front bed Molle Panel. I am trying to find the perfect configuration of things to mount that are useful to me. So far a water can, gas can, army shovel, first aid kit, maybe a fire extinguisher. Show me your setup!

 

Don’t think, just do! It’s amazing. I’ve got almost 1500 miles on the pro tune. Oddly, the truck does better gas mileage in Bay Area traffic then it did on I5. Loves 87 octane, bud will learn others levels. I cruise around the Bay Area at about 70mph when I’m not I. Traffic. This is my average fuel economy as of tonight.

 

I've only had a Taco for two weeks now, so please forgive my ignorance, but... dafuq? The ECU has a special tune stuck behind DRM just for radar cruise? The logic behind that baffles me almost as much as routing the microphone through the fucking DCM. I'm glad I don't use radar cruise so that wouldn't annoy me that much in practice. But still, that's stupid.
