It's the alternator Charlie. The light comes on at idle because that's when it's spinning slowly.

A Denso is the only reman unit I'd trust, or buy the 500$ one from the dealer. The price will hurt but you won't have to worry about it for a long time

If this one goes bad outside of the warranty period, I'll likely buy the one you sent me a link to, Chris; My primary reason for buying this one is that I didn't feel like dropping $500+ at the stealership, but I need to get my truck back on the road ASAP and I can't just have it sitting in the garage for days while I wait for a part to get shipped to me.

 

And you have two AR-15s and an AR-10?

 

So the AR-10 has better range and packs more of a wallop?

 

I was searching the junkyards for you and it appears the 4 banger changed the alternator specs at some point during the 2010 model year.

 

As a cheaper option, you could try getting an alternator rebuild kit, or whatever it would be called. I’ve read how, doesn’t “sound” complicated. That doesn’t mean it’s easy, or even possible without some special tools. Which leads me to a favorite phrase, seemed like a good idea at the time.

 

Also, Gwyn didn't know who or what "Pussy Galore" was; We were out drinking one night and I was talking about Bond movies. She heard "pussy" and instantly thought I was talking about a porno movie...

 

A lot of "What not to do" stories end that way...

Not off the table for that reason yes..though I'd def say test the alternator first, since it's easier to locate and test it versus crawl around looking all over.

Though it's definitely behaving like an alternator, I've had them croak in my car more than once in my life. It's not unheard of at 12 years old, 140K plus I know we both have other items that put wear on the system such as stereo stuff.
