This is all contingent on the SEC approving it. I'm not so sure they will. Although with the DoJ opening an investigation into short selling it might force the SECs hand. As far as truly forcing a squeeze goes this is how to do it.

I have nothing against short sellers. Hell, 20% of my options trades are in puts. What I have a problem with is naked shorting. I also like making money which is why a lot of mine is tied to GTii. lol

 

Fun fact: Puts are still technically a long play. Shorts are just shorting stock. (I just learned this a couple weeks ago and I'm proud of myself)

 

I can see how it can be viewed that way. For puts to profit though you are betting on a decline in the underlying security. The same exact thing legal shorts are betting on.

 

Yes, but as a technically correct term, Puts are a long play, and we both know how much I love to be technically correct. I didn't create the vocabulary, I'm just neurotically pedantic about it.

 

Technically I would consider it a long play if you exercised the put and took the stock. If you use a put as a means to profit with no intention of buying the underlying it's then a short play. So, technically it is both. I also love to be right. And usually am. lol

 

You also live in CA, so I disregard like 80% of what you say on general principle

 

If you buy calls to sell without exercising, it would be the same I think. I also have to be right so the 3 of us have to settle this.

 

We are both correct, depending on the semantics, which delights me even further.
