Generic TPMS?

I sold my original wheels like an idiot with the TPMS in them. Considering a different wheel/tire setup and may reinstall TPMS. However I don’t want to pay $300 for OEM. Has anyone had good experiences with the knockoff or generic sensors? If so where did you get them?

 

I recently had all 4 OEM sensors replaced at Discount Tire, with whatever they put in, for $60 each and have had zero problems with them.

 

Look into RockAuto. Pay attention to the communication frequency.

2nd & 3rd Gens use a different frequency. Meaning a 2nd Gen TPMS cant talk to a 3rd Gen truck, also vice versa.

Any tire store should be able to provide the proper TPMS.

 

Just replaced mine at Costco in conjunction with new tires. Units were 8 yrs old (working) but figured they'd fail before tires wore out. Not a screaming deal, but convenient.

I’m thinking more of the $40-60 sets of four sold all over eBay and Amazon. Some even have fake Toyota OEM packaging.

Yep but I figured you get what you pay for and didn’t want to have to have it done again because I got cheap ones plus wanted it with someone who would fix or replace if there was any problems.

 

Not positive.....but I think it is 347 Hz.

Suggest to steer clear of Fleecebay and the "original" packaging. Too many fake, knock-off jungue in "original" package.

IIRC, the sensors on RockAuto are around $30/ea. Amazon also has sensors.

The RockAuto vehicle sort should guide you to the correct sensors for your truck.

 

I bought a set of used ones from ebay for like 50 bucks. No problems what so ever and programmed it myself with the autel tpms tool

Sensors for the 2020 Tacoma use a frequency of 315 Hz. Sensor price runs from $20-35/ea

 

I believe it's 315 Mhz.

 

315Mhz is correct. I use the clone Autel versions.

2nd Gen TPMS Sensors Do Not Work in 3rd Gen ECM/PCM !

 

Where did you purchase yours?

 

I used ITM sensors. Bought 2 years ago and have no issues. Came with codes, but you will need to update TMPS control module with new codes.

 

I bought the Autel 601 tool online and bought the sensors from my local tire shop. I used the 601 to read the OEM sensor ID numbers and uploaded them to the Autel clone sensors.

I have three sets of wheels for my Tacoma. All three use the same OEM IDs so the ECU/PCM never needs the be reprogrammed.

The used wheel sets, 16” TRD Beadlock and 17” TRD Rock Warrior, were ion 2nd Gen trucks. I found out that those 315Mhz sensors do not work with my ‘17.

I have a hard time believing tire shops use the “real” OEM sensors… they probably generic ones similar to what is on Amazon and eBay. The are all probably made in the same Chinese factory.

These sensors at least “look” identical to the OEM Pacific sensors - $40 for the set on eBay. May give them a try, then if they don’t work or fail, I’ll be back where I am today (tire pressure light is on since I have none installed in my current setup).

Anyone have experience with these from eBay?

 

Got mine here, cost was 160, so between the outrageous dealer price and the cheap eBay ones I wasn’t willing to trust. No issues. Just depends on how cheap you want to be

 

A tire shop broke one of my OEM metal sensors and installed a rubber stem aftermarket sensor without telling me.
