Oh I get it's NZXT. They're not great. I'm just stating, somewhat rhetorically, how could they of shorted the market making them when there would of been even more demand had DDR5 been readily available.

Yeah, for the start of the DDR5 era the gaming difference is negligible overall. I went for it because, much like DDR3 to DDR4, it's not about the gaming performance on day 1. A year in games had made changes to take advantage of the higher bandwidth and 6500 mhz memory will be a thing by then too. I decided to go for it.

In case anyone is looking, there's some DDR5 in the newegg shuffle today, closes at 10a pst. I know it's a crapshoot, but it's (barely) better than no chance hah.

It's interesting. I found a recent YouTube video that did a DDR4 and DDR5 comparison (with 12th Gen components) on some AutoDesk software - including AutoCad and Revit - the 2 products I use daily for my business (Revit mostly). And there was absolutely no difference in the 2. In fact....in the extremely close charts, the DDR4 was micro points ahead.
However, I do feel that DDR5 will be utilized down the road. So I certainly wouldn't rule it out.

I didn't catch the version. I'll assume he's using the most recent version - 2022. That's what I'm using - both AC and Revit.

    Here's the video.... https://youtu.be/naVuiBdd-6A

Wish I could say it was mine. Building for a friend of a friend. 5950x w/ the 3080... not sure I'll have the willpower to give it back when I'm done.

Still milking my 3770k/1080 for all I can...

    Yeah.
Pretty sure it is just going to be up to the chipsets and microcode on mainboards to tweak out improvements with DDR5, as well as improvements to DDR5 itself. Applications can't really do anything, it's all just memory to them. They've had a while to optimize DDR4, so I am sure DDR5 improvements will come.

My daughter's 1080 is starting to overheat more than it used to, may be time to refresh the thermal paste to make it last long enough for a replacement to be available.

That was my point. Usually it takes general availability to start to show any net benefits to newer memory technology. We've already seen 7zip and a few other very specific programs achieve double digit gains with DDR5. Eventually that will trickle out to other things.

Repasting is never a bad idea. We'll, it can be if it's your first time and you use too much liquid metal like a buddy of mine did lol. RIP.

Are EVGA keyboards ever not on clearance? I'm not sure I've ever seen them on sale for full price. Seems like EVGA really struggles for some reason in the keyboard market. I also don't see them in Bestbuy, or other box stores, where a lot of impulse spending happens on "gamer gear."

Lol can't argue that, they usually are on sale. That being said I have the z15 and like it a lot.

Perpetually on sale or would otherwise be priced too high?

Yeah, the non-sale price would definitely be too high. On sale though, definitely a good buy. I had a G.Skill KM780 before and much prefer the z15.

I've never seen a G. Skill board either. Everything I've had, for whatever it's worth, has been Logitech (all the way back to the G15), Razer, Drop, or completely custom.

    Yeah.
Re-pasted my daughter's 1080 yesterday, she's reporting 10-20C cooler temps. What was there was all dried up and hardened, and they do a messy job at the factory. Bought us a bit more time.

for the record, not me. I built my rig for Solidworks so my GPU is screaming at 78 when I play AOE and Doom.

    Hopefully watercooling helps :)

You may get some pump noise in that configuration, not that it's avoidable.

Unfortunately I inherited this build from the owner who got a few things done and then was too scared to keep going.

This included the pump in the current configuration and they neglected to attach a little motherboard tray extension the case came with for this size mobo. I was too lazy to rectify either issue.

With all these fans and the whine of the 3080... I don't think they're ever going to hear the pump, though
