    Yes but the amp and sub are in addition to the normal stuff you use (heat, lights, etc). I'm not saying the stereo ruined it, just that it's more use.

    Think of it like a tank full of fuel. If you drive slow, don't accelerate hard, all that it will get you further than if you hop on it all along.

    The alternator was already over eight years old when we added the sub and amp, and it lasted another four years; At some point I probably will put in a 130 to 200 amp unit, but right now I just need my truck back on the road!

    I understand your thoughts. But, electrical grounds can affect multiple systems.

    In my dumb mechanical mind, the electrons get lost then they go back home and lock the doors not coming out to do work.

    Alternator is putting out 10 volts, and it is now audibly whining; It's shot...

    And then the trickle charger my neighbor let me borrow also has an "alternator test" feature...

    Also, for the record, those Christmas lights are all battery-operated and do not run off the truck; They guy at AutoZone who ran the free diagnostic thought the lights were what was killing the alternator, but so have not run lights off the truck since 2012...

    :rofl::rofl::rofl:
    I had been wondering about this for some time...
    Picture Clark Griswold plugging in his Christmas decorations and the neighborhood going blackout.
    :rofl::rofl::rofl:
    Cool you got it fixed Charlie.

    So, the really funny thing is the stranded motorist I helped out was my supervisor from the Halloween store; She had already called her friends and was waiting on them when I stopped at the gas station to take pictures of a sweet 1982 AMC Eagle wagon that was refueling. She recognized me and came up to me for help; I hooked up the Taco to her Altima and literally seconds after we got it started her friends showed up with a plug-in jumpstarter; Like you're really gonna find an outlet to plug that thing in at a gas pump! This is why I always carry jumper cables in my truck!

    Oh absolutely; I mean, I've had my stereo in my truck for all but a few weeks of the 9 years I've owned the vehicle. I'm not saying that it murdered the alternator, but it was additional use of it.

    I'm talking about the rechargeable battery boost pack. Only needs charged every few months, the only time it needs charged...or after you use it.
    Those AMC Eagle have quite a following now. A coworker bought one and restored it because he remembered one a friend's parents had when he was a kid. He said he remembered being impressed how well it got around in the snow compared to most rear wheel drive cars you seen back then.

    The stand alone jumpers are nice though. Prob have rechargeable lithium batteries in them. Silly to bring an electric one. Low chance you'd have an outlet near by
