The Christmas trees and stuff were in the old Victorian era bank on the square, now the "Event Center".
Second picture is looking past the big Christmas tree towards Frank's Pizza on the south side of the square.

I used to shoot trap with Domenico, the founder of Frank's.
He came from Amalfi, just south of Naples, Italy, with little more than the clothes on his back.
Sadly, he passed away last year.
His boys, Frank and Joe, are the Pizza Tycoons (that's what I call them, anyway)
They own the Event Center, several properties in town, and several pizza joints.

I've scrutinized the pictures you've posted from time to time and thought I recognized some of those places.

Story Time With Gritto

I'll never forget the day old Dom shot a 50 straight in a downpour at Fulton County Sportman's Club.
I was on the post beside him.
Each time he broke a bird it looked like a smoke ring, it was raining so hard.
Poof!
We won the match that day because of him.

Normally, you'd try to wait out a rain shower, but that day it wouldn't quit.
So you shot or took a miss on the match.

I miss that guy.
His English was absolutely terrible and half the time you had to guess what he was saying.

Hah, wow it really is a small world! I'm not a Fulton County native, just somehow wound up there. Born in Hagerstown and quickly moved to Greencastle along Buchanan Trail West. Ironically just put a contract on a house 3 miles before hitting Mercersburg on 16 (Buchanan Trail), so once I post a photo of the house you'll probably recognize the house. Once weather warms up again we'll definitely have to meet up! Never knew you were that close!

seems to be quite a few folks here from MD, myself included. But I only lived in Baltimore for the first 3 years of my life, and then the folks moved back to Texas, lucky me. Was called a Yankee all through grade school and High School. Even if you showed them a map of the Mason Dixon Line, with Maryland being below it, they still called me a Yankee.

 

Mercersburg is Franklin county. It's an odd little town. You have the "rednecks" or the yuppies; mostly due in part because of the Academy. I fall in neither; it's a house by itself so I can keep to myself

 

My parents almost sent me to the Mercersburg Academy back when I was in Junior High...after a bad report card.
True Fact.

Personally I prefer the rednecks...they don't care what anybody else thinks.
Yuppies just rub me wrong.


Story Time With Gritto

(Second one today, ain't youse guys lucky)

I once did an insurance restoration job near Mercersburg, way out in nowhere south of town.
Between Mercersburg and Whitetail Ski Resort.

The guy was named Denny and he was a crusty semi-retired old bastard, living on several acres zoned as farmland.
His wood stove had started a fire in his old farmhouse.
I got assigned the job in the pious hope that I might be able to deal with him.

We were talking one day while I was loading up my truck at the end of the day.

He pointed across the road to a new subdivision going up, and said:
"See that? That really pisses me off. I gotta get me some pigs."

Now, maybe some of you require a bit of explanation.
The old fucker fully intended to be a bad neighbor.
I mean bad.
