I was just thinking about the best time to buy a normal gas Tacoma in the next few years.

normal Tacoma's will probably be at their cheapest in year 2024-2028. during this time people will jump on the EV truck bandwagon (by then they will have worked out battery issues and mass production scale up). Demand for a new gas truck will drop as Toyota transitions away from gas into EV over that time. Also people will be selling their used Tacoma's as they swap for their EV truck, so the used gas truck market will also be flooded by ppl wanting to "trade up" for EV. This will become noticeable at first with the cyber truck release. most posers with a Tacoma will sell it to get that dumb thing.

Just sayin, if you want that TRD PRO just wait 2-5 years and that nice truck will be worth as much as a BlackBerry phone was worth by the time we all had iPhones.

I agree with you on the market, however 2-5 years is a lot of life passing you by, just saying.

100%. I want the Pro now, Who the hell knows what world looks like in 5 years, that's a long time from now.

I also think people way over estimate EV availability. IMO, 5 years from now we will be doing great if 10/100 new vehicles sold is a pure EV. Currently we are at 2-3/100. There are rumors that CT will be 2026 at best for the Canadian market, a year or two sooner in USA.

If manufacturers reduce gas truck production to align with anticipated market demand, then your prediction may be off target.

There will be some residual market for pure gas trucks. If Toyota floods the market with gas Tacomas while lagging the EV market, then prices will drop. But a more likely outcome is that Toyota anticipates market trends and attempts to scope production to demand.

The other extreme could occur, where gas truck production gets reduced prematurely, and the supply of gas trucks remains outstripped by the (limited) residual demand.

Personally, I plan to pay off current car loans and see how things look in 5 years. I could see a scenario where my Tacoma becomes a pure weekend warrior and I go for a pure EV for daily use.

The thing is Toyota website inventory isnt accurate. That is why I asked. Unless you count them in person it isnt accurate.

True. They could also play it smart like you said and anticipate demand, by reducing their own supply. I think this is happening intentionally now and the “chip shortage” plus covid disruption is just an excuse to jack prices up while selling at some steady state

Also that’s exactly what I did. Kept my 2018 taco for weekends and I got a tesla model 3 performance, for daily .

I think some dealers are hiding new vehicles to enhance the shortage mantra and maintain higher profit margin.

I bought my 2022 on Black Friday morning. It showed up the day before Thanksgiving. They had no other trucks on the lot. It was just dumb luck that I stumbled upon it.

My Toyota dealership is almost empty. They have more used vehicles than new. It's not just Toyota though. My wife wants a new SUV and she can't find a dealer within a reasonable drive that has a new Q5 or GV70.

I have been trying to buy a Taco thru the Yota employee program since summer.
Very few dealers now take VSPP on the Tacomas. One agreed, but has been dragging its feet since July.
Latest game they play is taking a basic Taco, adding $10k worth of options, and saying that will honor the VSPP, but I am paying full retail for dealer add-ons.

Looks like I need to wait another year before I can get my truck. Or wait till economy really crashes in a few months, after the interest rates go up.

Go into your local, empty, Toyota dealership and tell them you are here for Toyotathon! Tell 'em you want that green Tacoma they are advertising on all their social media feeds.

Traded my 2018 TRD Sport MGM for a new 4Runner also MGM. I got pretty much the same in trade 3 years and 30k miles later. And, after a couple days for whatever detailing they do, they have it listed for $4500 more than they gave me in trade, and what I paid for it those 3 years ago. I'm happy with my new 4Runner, though I waited 3 months to complete the sale.
