I'm in Lakewood, near Long Beach. I was thinking Pioneertown to Big Bear. I'm down to go anywhere reasonable for a day trip though.

Ditto on being up for a day trip from pioneer town to big bear.
I could potentially make it if it was Friday or Sunday this weekend.

I have a set that are too big in case I need to get by the man. I haven't needed chains up there with 4x4 and decent tires.

The trail gets icy when the sun goes down though.

If it stays in the 30s then I doubt it, should still be good snow come the weekend.

good idea to always carry them just in case, but CHP will only require it if it's actually snowing or a big storm is predicted. If you go up after a storm then chances are they'll have the main roads plowed and chains won't be required esp for 4wd.

If it's during a big storm though (and its big enough) they will require even 4x4s to pull over and put on chains. I've never had that happen though, most theyve done to me is just ask to see them.

oh yeah, i've been up there when it was snowing and we had to turn around because we didn't have chains. That was a gnarly trip.

I got some chains for 285's, but may actually need them as I'm 2wd.

Think I have a set of 265 chains and some 275 chains too somewhere if someone needed some just to show CHP

Last time I was up there with unexpected snow, no chains and dozens of people (big jeeps) getting stuck and sliding around. Xm3stfkHK9fmP4rWnXhr2GNnxpStEKrn-s07tzVE_eae0d31bca883af422dafd1a95057382d93f0a0b.jpg
