That kind of sucks. As a SR owner though, I'm pretty much used to running out lie 10 minutes early and getting it started.

Only aesthetic mods so far Leer 180 cap & Clazzio covers on order.
Is it worth it? Emphatically NO from my perspective.
Too many snowflakes can't handle getting into a vehicle that isn't the same temp inside as it was inside their abode. I'm not one of them.
My Taco will reach a comfortable temp after a few miles. I'll give it a 60 second warm-up before I move in the Winter. Summer - doesn't much matter.
Remote start is a feature I have no use for.

Glad I went with non OEM then. Even using the FOB with the lock button within range? That's shenanigans. Thanks @N2DesignsInc

I had a 2019 Ranger with Apple Carplay and remote start through the Ford app. I'm pretty sure after a certain amount of time 12,36 months or so you had to pay for the app to continue. Welcome to the future, soon everyone will be charging for this convenience.

Just for shits and grins, I just went out and tested the FOB remote start on my 2019 OR and it worked! Nice little surprise on this frosty morning in Dixie.

Drum brakes and paying a fee to use a system that has always been free and included in my other vehicles when new….

My wife has a Trax LTZ and you can use the fob for the remote start for free, but to use some of the functions of the app from your phone (such as starting the car) you need to have a subscription to Onstar. So it just seems like a natural progression that it's going that way, for the car industry. Pretty annoying.

This could be the straw that broke the camel’s back or the thin edge of the wedge for some. Or downright annoying enough to ask myself: do I really need this? Or, does Toyota really need the additional $80/yr after fleecing me for all they could get at the dealer? I’ve not felt a need for remote start for 60 Canuck winters. Think I’ll keep it that way. The bastards.

Exactly my scenario, it’s for my tundra but same deal. The fob has terrible range.

SSO hybrid bumper, Warn winch, RCI skid trilogy, RRW sliders, everything in the cheap/free mods thread, and of course the frame recall work.
Nope. It's not exactly difficult to start your car. I mean, it's not like you want it to go anywhere without you. Wipe off the door, get in and start it, crank up defrost, turn on seat, get back out & clean off snow. Grab that push broom to hit 90%, scrape ice off windows, brush the last little bit off, get in to a warmed up truck.

That's not the stock Toyota system though... This doesn't apply to Tacoma's until 20+.

For the people bitching about the money who do you think should pay for the cell service to do this? Toyota? My aftermarket system requires a yearly fee to start from my cell too.

Pretty simple. You don't want the convivence of starting from anywhere don't pay. If you do pay for it.

This is like bitching that you bought a cell phone and now have to also pay for data to make it work.

Are you sure about that? My 2019 OR is bone stock with just a few factory add ons like the OEM tonneau and predator bars.

Yes, 100% sure. It's not stock. I assume you're not the original owner?

I am the original owner and it is a bone stock Tacoma OR. Pretty sure my 19 was build in late 2018, so it maybe it falls into the exception discussed at the bottom of this graphic that was posted earlier in the thread.

reoccurring revenue is what it is all about. Everyone is doing it. Microsoft said Windows 10 would be their last OS. That is until they realized that there is no reoccurring revenue from it. Enter Windows 11. the subscription model is here.
