On a FWD car, do the rear sway bar bushings need to be torqued down when the vehicle is supported by its own weight?

Not the end links, the actual bar itself

    Are you experiencing side fumbling?

Just a reminder of what we talked about on the trail, get the new sockets and seats for your manual trans and tcase, you're gonna start losing gears eventually at your trucks age if you don't change them now.

The yellow highlighted option get you all three you need...

I would say no but it probably depends on the car.

yes, suspension as a rule should be torqued on the ground and settled

It's the wife's 01 corolla. No side fumbling but after changing the rear struts assemblies sway bar end links and now sway bar bushings, it had a really loud clunk when she drives over big bumps (like railroad tracks)

Shouldn't the bar articulate regardless of if it's torqued down or not? The torsion comes from the difference between relative end link heights.

It still gets trapped in a resting position, if you can easily rotate the bar in its bushings the bushings are toast

Just following our trucks rule, I'd only torque to spec while on the ground.

You sure everything is "seated" correctly?

Btw the side fumbling was a ref to your video

Had that on my R when I first bought it. End links were seizing. Sprayed with lube and not had an issue since.

I can't remember if I added these to my G-trans in the 84 4Runner. That trans isn't going to last long behind the 3RZ I swapped in so I guess it wont really matter in the long run.

I'm honestly not sure it's all seated the way it should be.. it's so hard to get to those lower strut bolts with the tire on so I did it up in the air.

Good call back on the side fumbling, it tripped me up cause I thought you were referring to the car swaying back and forth:laughing:

Well... I can easily rotate it or pull side-to-side in the trucks with it disconnected from the end links; I think you'd have shot bushings if you could get up-and-down play too

Yea I can move them (with force) by hand so figured they weren't siezed. Plus they're only about 3k old.

But I did buy a cheap A1auto kit so it's possible they're junk from the get go
