Is remote start worth $80/year?

For me what you get 80$/year isn't good value but being able to determine if my truck is locked from anywhere alone is enough that I'll probably renew in 9 months when my trial expires. I won't like it, but I understand that functionality (cellular) costs money over time rather than being a one time cost so I don't expect a business to provide it free for all time.

The rest of the subs that come with a newer truck will probably go unless insurance essential covers it like the SOS.

I’m just outside of Chicago and the winters here can be brutal. When my free year is done, I’ll probably just pay per month for the cold months.

+1 to that! The primary function of Remote Connect, in my day-to-day experience, is to make my phone ding every time I leave my truck unlocked in my own garage.

Knowing that remote start works from the keyfob for free, the question in this thread really ought to be, "Is remote start on your phone instead of your keyfob worth $80 per year?"

I'm intrigued... are you saying it's possible to get insurance to cover SOS, or get a discount if you subscribe?

I bought the Compustar system from Best Buy for the fiance's 19 4runner and she LOVES it. I say buy an aftermarket one and give Toyota the finger on this bs. They've done a lot of good things but this isn't one of them.

Maybe with all the extra revenue they can replace the high school kids that developed the current Tacoma automatic transmission with actual engineering graduates

Not a feature I care about. Never idle my vehicles or equipment more than necessary.

I have practically no commute so most "wow" features in new vehicles do nothing for me.

How does this help when you are out, at the store, on vacation, or other reasons why you’re not home?

It's a discount if you say you have it, I think it's 13$ a month for me.

    This thread: TL;DR.

My 2 cents: I wouldn't pay $80 for remote start even if it was a one time payment as it is just another gimmick that I don't actually need.

I'd be more likely to pay $80 a month to not have it.

I won't pay for that. Though I live-in PNW. It is a feature nice to have. It is just not a must.

I wouldn't use it even if I had one most of the time. Despite being in a cold weather climate, I usually just start it and go. Plus working from home now.
