    It's DLX son!
We've been down this road before. Tons of premium down in Baja. Can't recall a pemex that didn't have it last trip, and there are more gas stations and than ever. All the snow birds pulling trailers and monster slide in campers get thirsty.

I’m saying a TRD tune for 455 injectors will run rich with a S/C equipped engine sans S/C belt. Even in causal driving situations

Well in my experience when my S/C belt broke on the TRD tune…. Driving home gingerly was no fun. My AFRs were hitting 9 even though I was barely giving it the gas pedal. And the engine would definitely bog down at any speed over 40/50 mph.

To be clear. The engine definitely ran right at idle and it would creep along at very slow speeds fine. But nothing was right keeping up with normal traffic speed from my experience

The ECU in our application is strictly airflow based. The ECU doesn't know whether there's a supercharger, turbocharger or not installed.

The airflow model (MAF Calibration) defines the amount of air entering the engine, the fuel model (injector calibration data) defines the flow rate of the injector for its pulse width calculation. The closed loop AFR is hard coded in the ECU (14.6) and regardless of what method of induction you have, it's going to calculate the appropriate pulse width based on the airflow and fuel models to achieve the target stoich point.

When the ECU knows the airflow and you have a solid airflow model, good injector data, the truck will run 100% regardless of what aspiration you have.

I cannot speak to what you experienced, but I am confident there was something more at play than a broken belt. Was this by chance on the UCON/or APR variant? If so, that would explain things.

    (EDIT)

I should further clarify. Though I said the engine will run 100%, that's not to imply it'll feel like a N/A engine without the S/C installed. I mean that in the sense that the MAF calibration and injector calibration data will allow the truck to target appropriate injector pulse widths to achieve targeted closed loop AFR's.

The engine will be a bit of a dog, as you have a rotor pack acting as a restriction to the intake tract. It'll feel like a dog sure. But the fueling portion will be ok.

If you do experience richer than stoich AFR's with a belt removed, it's likely due to the fact you're using more throttle to overcome the induction restriction of the rotor pack. This could potentially put the truck into Power Enrichment (Open Loop) fueling which targets much richer mixtures. Or, if you're into the throttle heavy for a sustained duration you could enter COT enrichment (catalyst overtemp enrichment). Which is another form of PE or Open Loop fueling.

But the point remains, the way the ECU calculates the injector pulse width is based off airflow alone, regardless of what induction type you have fitted to the vehicle.

Pretty sure TRD tune but maybe HPtune. Regardless, definitely 455s. Once I got a new S/C belt installed everything was good to go.

But like I edited my last post. Yes the engine would idle perfectly fine and even very slowly drive okay. Like 25 mph slow. But driving near or over 50 mph in 6 gear was bogging like crazy. And AFRs were 8-9s

I made an edit to my post to provide some clarity/further explanation which may explain your observation.

Good point! Makes sense the rotor pack blocks the air flow.

i broke a belt and drove for a day on it till i got a new one and it just felt like driving around with out ever going into boost. thats with 660 injectors and UCON. pretty sure i even got on the interstate for a short period of time. this was like 8/9 years ago tho.

I just wanted to add i had 93 in the tank. with 87 yeah might be some issues with that even without the supercharger making the boosts

maybe elevation has an effect on that. when i broke a belt i went 10+ miles on the freeway fine. had zero passing power though. but made it to a place i could lace up a replacement. im at near c-level too.

i empty my catch can about every 5,000 miles and this time there was 3 to 4 times the typical amount of oil. there seems to be quite a bit of fuel in the oil.

i am hoping there is a solvable PCV issue and not something more sinister going on here. so, where is the PCV on a SC Tacoma? is this it?

thank you. looks like i'm taking the blower off to get in there. SC mileage is 51,793.

i've got 5/16 hose on the PCV and SC. it's too small for the SC barb so i'm thinking 3/8 will be a good replacement.
