So I saved up for sliders but I am not sure I want to fork over the extra $300.00 for frame bolt-ons. Because of this awesome website I found some for $600.00 at Avid Off-road but they want want an additional $300.00 for the frame bolt-ons instead of the pinch-weld mounted style. Any of you run the pinch weld type? I don't want to weld them incase I change mind later.

    Thanks

Yeah spend the extra money or continue to save an get 100% bolt on sliders, weld on is fine too as it is a way to save some money but has obvious downsides but still solid protection.

Don't buy the bolt-on "slider/step" they offer, they are just steps that look like sliders. It even says on their website they are an alternative to step bars not an alternative to sliders. These will offer you no protection, just give you the slider look.

Get bolt on. You can always change your mind later and sell them for pretty much the same price you paid.

Buy once, cry once. Just keep saving for bolt on. I’m doing the same thing.

    Do you weld?

If not, how much do you think it’s going to cost to get them welded on?

If you're getting sliders and intend on using them as such, don't get the ones that bolt to the body, the frame mounted are significantly stronger. Along with intended use, buy once cry once. My sliders cost me $350 in shipping alone.

If they aren't bolted or welded to the frame, they aren't sliders. If you're truly looking to use them as sliders for protection while wheeling, do what others have said and continue saving.

If the intended use isn't wheeling but rather a step or protection from door dings and/or crawling mall curbs (nothing wrong with that) then these are fine.

Frame mounted/welded on ones are the strongest.

Some clarification for the Avid site...

THIS PAGE combines frame mounted weld-on sliders and body mounted bolt on "slider/STEPS"...they are NOT the same. Scroll down on the page for the descriptions...it's very misleading/confusing if you don't know what you're looking for:

    upload_2021-12-14_10-44-12.jpg

The frame mounted bolt-on sliders can be found HERE. These are real sliders that bolt to the frame...

    Hope that helps...

Thanks again everybody. It's now obvious that I need to keep saving for the frame mounted units. I will probably be go with Avid because they are local and they were very patient with all of my questions. Acted like true Professionals

I've got the Randy Ellis Designs sliders that bolt to the body.

The new design has a steel backing plate that bolts into 6 threaded inserts in the body, then a fabricated steel slider with tubes that hooks over the door sill under the doors and bolts to the backing plate with 9 grade 8 bolts sandwiching the pinch weld.

the design seems sound and they are plenty strong. The argument on the product page points out that bolt-on or weld-on sliders will flex and put leverage on the frame which is C-Chanel and notorious for flex and can potentially still impact the body.

I've seen Randy Ellis body mounted sliders on a Power Wagon take a beating with the full weight of the truck so I'm not too concerned with using them on my Tacoma. I forget the weight but it's easily 1/3 of a frame mounted slider.

That said, I don't intend to do the Rubicon in my Tacoma. But in the event that I need them, they're there.
