My bet it’ll be the 3rd Gen facelift plus EV so they can sell you on the new model EV (4th Gen Taco) a few years later as well. [EDIT: I looked closer at the Tacoma . . . DEFINITELY the 4th Gen. Nothing like the 3rd haha my bad.]

I think they were actually planning to avoid this shift and branch of a more long term goal way and then saw the wave and decided to cash in on it. Electric will never be “the future” in my opinion, but I am more than happy to see it as an option and advancing so quickly.

They should market electric = performance instead of “green” though if they want more buyers ha.

Nice, but I refuse to get all hot and bothered over concept vehicles. When they are on the showroom floor then I MIGHT take a look.

It's better than the new Tundra grille. Looks awesome to me, but that tiny rear door is dissapointing, are they shrinking the rear seat to finally favor driver comfort and position? Because ruining the rear seat is the wrong direction Toyota. Improve the front seating while retaining decent rear seat comfort is the right direction

Edit: Saw your edit…and deleted my thought. I “think” I see a linkage arm instead of leafs under the bedside there.

They were lobbying against EVs there for awhile, but think they wanted to drag it out as long as possible before government mandated it. Just assumed they always were doing R&D on EVs.

Yeah, EVs really aren’t very green. I am with you on the performance aspect, they’ll flat out smoke ICE vehicles once they get the energy storage issue solved.

I'd buy an EV Taco over a 3rd gen all day  would be perfect for hauling metal and lumber across town.

Toyota is always hedging its bets and playing out all scenarios with its engineers and business managers. I'm sure they've played with everything from diesel to propane to vegetable oil throughout the years, just for the sake of fleshing it out.

They're smart to want to avoid mandates and let manufacturers compete in an open market rather than a forced one.

If the EV Taco is pretty simple I'll get one once they're used and proven reliable . . . but I think it's more likely they're reliable than simple machines at this point. I'm running out of Toyotas to buy. Hard to find another minty 05-06 Tundra when this one finally dies on me. Don't know if I can go back to a 2nd Gen Taco after enjoying the space.

Current HiLux is kinda hard to look at. Never was too thrilled about the 3rd Gen, but it is better than the HiLux. If this is the possible 4th Gen, glad they didn’t do the new Tundra ginormous grill.

Won't Toyota need to build an EV Camry before they build an EV Tacoma? Where will Toyota get their EV truck motor, if their is no EV car to source from?

am Pro grille w/lights, black tailgate letters, black badging, 265-70-17 Duratrac "c", Rear seat platform,
I won't consider a full EV until they come out with replaceable batteries. When I can pull in to a service station and exchange my batteries and be back on the road in 15 minutes with full power... then I'd be interested. My cabin is 167 miles door to door. By the time I got up there I would have to recharge for hours before I could make it back home because I would only have 110V available. Or I'd have to spend thousands to upgrade my entire power system at the cabin but still have to wait while it charged. It's not like leaving with a half-tank of gas where you can top off at any one of 150 stations between your destination points. Now if they were making a Hybrid system I'd definitely be interested. At least with a hybrid you can always use gas until you have time to stop and charge.

Pretty sure it will be reliable. Their hybrids are proven solid.

Used to be anti-new tech, up until very recently. When on 10/8/21 I bought a new 3rd Gen, it totally changed my mind. Still have my 1st Gen, jumped in it the other day to run an errand. Mang it feels really old, and has been demoted to being “charming” and have no desire to drive it anymore. Went from trying to live in the past, to looking forward what the future brings. Once hated all the electronic gee-gaws to really enjoying them.
