While the walls are open maybe add some add'l outlets if there are any areas lacking. Depending on the use of the space maybe add some in-wall conduit for audio/video hookups to run instead of dangling in the open. Insulation and/or mass loaded vinyl if there are any areas up there that noise control would be nice in. Additional wood between the studs anywhere you plan to hang something heavy in the future. That's about all I got...gimme your credit card & I'm sure I can think up some more ideas. :spending:

As long as its not aluminum, or the wires themselves arent insulated with cloth/rubber its fine. But Im there with you. Ill be rewiring a few rooms as I remodel them here soon since the opportunity is there.

That's like teaching my girlfriend how to drive the ATV. I was going to do the heavy lifting hauling wood pellets into the basement and just have her load up the cart and keep driving them around back to me. It was like watching a bucking bronco. For some reason she was really struggling with a gentle application of the throttle.

Mine is all armored cable with cloth and rubber insulation, except where I have added circuits myself or replaced sections. House was built in 1957.

Attic insulation is mostly vermiculite so it's possibly got some of the miracle mineral in it (asbestos). Someone did put fiberglass batts on top at some point so heat doesn't seem to escape easily. The walls have some fiberglass in them, I found it when I drilled through for my mini split. Overall, for a 50s house it seems surprisingly well insulated.

Taught my wife to operate the clutch on my motorcycle and said “why don’t you try pulling it into the garage, if anything happens just pull in the clutch” what happened was a freak out and dropping the clutch crashing into some stuff in the garage . Luckily she wasn’t hurt, but the broken clutch lever has been an ornament on our tree ever since

A back step for when I get older, Carhartt seatcovers, 4Runner wheels, Topper, and "tats all folks"! --for now!!
WOWSER -- That is something else -- on to the positives. The vinyl can be replaced in whole sections if you wish, but if you want a quicker and not as great idea, you can patch a spot hole in your siding if you have a scrap piece of siding laying around. I have had good luck doing this quick fix with white vinyl on my garage with a high quality poly glue (not the foaming type) and a small piece of siding. if you are more than 5-6 ft away, you can't see the patch

    Brand new.

Can I suggest add in hardwired smoke / carbon monoxide detectors too.

Ugh, my mom is going through that now. She's selling her old house and closing is Monday. The town's new fire chief failed her due to the smoke detectors not being hard wired. Apparently the rule is if the construction was prior to 1975 they don't need to be, but the house was built in 1976.

I'd just do it, but now a town official has seen it wasn't done so if it's mysteriously done without a permit being pulled or an electrician doing the work I don't want to deal with potentially creating another problem to solve the first one.

I called the electrician we use at work and he said he could squeeze it in, but he backed out yesterday because one of his guys has to isolate for ~10 days and it's causing him to fall behind on other projects. Fortunately, her realtor knew another guy who he traded a favor with to get it done Friday.

Boy will I be happy to see this house gone - I've been putting so much time into stuff there to get it ready to go.

Anyone have some advice on running some Romex through this mess? I've tried getting a fishing wire but that gets stuck too. I only have about 15 feet but it gets stuck every time. It's not blocked, there is just too much crap in there.

Started the guest bathroom remodel last night after supper. Plan for today is to get the shower surround out and level the subfloor. About 3/8” low near the toilet.

BX cable is some old stuff.
Get a thicker fiberglass fish rod and coat the end in wire pulling lube. It should find a path pretty easily.

Candle wax also works if you dont want to pay for a bottle of lube that you'll only use once.

Fiberglass fish tape has a lot more flex. Not sure that will help you much. Just gonna have to have some patience and keep trying.

Bulk builder special. Gonna leave the tub, but tile with 12x24 up to the ceiling and add a niche on the back wall, hex floor tile, new vanity mirror and light fixture.
