Have the TSB and 5100s at 2.5. Had a little takeoff shudder and vibe around 20-30 mph then 40 or so.

I installed carrier bearing spacers (thread

After about a year or so, I figured I'd tinker with it more because the back end settled a little bit and I still had a few vibes in the same speed range.

I removed one of the washers (so I have four now) and then I was thinking, how does the alignment of the carrier bearing effect vibes?

I tightened it up without making note of alignment and took it for a test ride. Vibes were back bigtime!

Loosened it, then centered the carrier bearing according to pg. 2 of the linked FSM ( ).

    Vibes almost gone!

I'm going to try to get it 100% perfect tomorrow.

Thank you SO MUCH for this information. When I bring the truck in on Monday, I'm going to try and get Toyota to do it for free since technically their TSB Leaf Springs caused the problem.

Keep us up to date on what ends up working out best for you.

Made a small adjustment today when it came to centering the carrier bearing using the drain hole (according to the FSM)

My vibes between 20-30 are almost completely gone. Most of the time I can't feel them. Only ones left are a little vibesw around 35-40 but not bad at all.

So happy to make some progess!

So did you find that the carrier bearing wasn't lined up or are you just adjusting it a little and doing a test ride?
    Thanks,
    Ron

The carrier wasn't aligned properly when it was stock.....

Update: lined it up as well as I could and alas, take off shudder is 90% gone (the rest is prob axle wrap) and the 20-30mph vibes are GONE!

The lingering vibes between 30-40 have been tougher to notice, but they always are, and they felt like something in the front end. I'll try to update later.....

In short, CHECK YOUR CARRIER BEARING!!!! Takes less than a minute to adjust with a 14 metric wrench.

i also have pulsating vibe from 30-40 mph and i'm positive its my driveshaft. I found out the same way you did by removing spacers on the CB and when i retightened no spacers it made the vibe 50% better than before. I did not pay attention to the alignment of it, but are you saying that it just needs to be as seen in page 2 with the tabs on the side where the bolts go through to be exactly (or close to) 90 degrees with the shaft?

yes. mine were not close to being aligned. if yours are close it shouldn't make too much difference.

fwiw, i have the 30-40 vibe that is actually noticeable, but it goes away in 4wd. pretty well documented problem at this point. if your vibe goes away in 4wd than it's the front diff....

no it remains in 4wd unfortunately. I noticed while driving on the highway that the vibe was the same in certain instances around 60-65 when i was trying to climb a hill in 5th and the same pulsating vibe (not a balance "shake") would occur, but once i downshifted to gain some rpms it would stop. So that also makes me believe its the driveshaft. I'm still gonna do your suggestion tomorrow and see if i can get the CB bracket as close to 90 degrees with the DS as i can, since when i did tighten it up last time it did affect the vibes in a positive way so we'll see.

Prob just gonna have to go with a one-piece DS or find one in the junk yard that isn't shot. Or maybe just replace my carrier bearing? my u-joints are fine
