I still want to see Bert's assistants' technique of getting a dent out using that method. :anonymous:

You'd really be impressed by her "no hands" method.

The steel is really thick there. “You’ll need to replace the panel” is what several different dent less and proper repair guys told me when some asshole backed into my parked truck and drove off. It was going to be north of $1,000, and I didn’t want to pay the $500 deductible.

Yours doesn’t look as bad, so maybe it’s fixable.

I had a similar dent on a previous car, was able to pop it out but if you are rubber malleting it, make sure the object you use isn’t edged…. I Totally didn’t reverse the dent when I tried that a while back

    Yeah.
Yeah, yours was crumpled from the end and has some obvious creases, not pushed in from the side. Yours is a tough one to get out without proper tools. You'd need to anchor it and put some pulling pressure from the rear with hydraulics while giving it some nudges from the back side with a hammer and dolly and hope it pops out straight. It would still likely be creased and need some refinishing work. Easier to just replace the panel on yours, kind of agree with the assessment you got.

OP's looks like it came from the side, so pushing back the direction the pressure came from should pop it back at least close. Everyone has their own level of acceptance on repairs, though.

I used to do paint and body work. Metal hasn't changed much in how you work it, but it's mostly thinner these days. I had to pull a small dent on a privatized Marathon cab once, that thing was a tank.

I don’t know, that’s why I said skill, I don’t have those skills and I’d probably screw it up if I tried it fix it myself. Sometimes you just have to let the experts do the job.

Welp, I crawled under there, pushed with the palm of my hand and "badonk". Popped right back into place.
Same for the lower gap where that little black wing is. (btw, what is that for, asthetics?)
    Looks like it never happened.

    Yeah!

Probably a worthless bit of aero and paint protection?

I'm bummed that you didn't get a chance to go with @Bertw192 's method. That might have won Christmas?

This is one of the things I consider "lowest of low".

And also the reason why I have a 3 channel dash cam.

I've been in your position OP, and mine was MUCH worse. I was driving cross country, stopped late night in Texas and all the hotels were full. When I found a motel I was shocked. Got to my room, instantly said nope, went up front and almost ended up in a fist fight with the assholes behind the counter trying to get a refund due to the quality and condition of the room. I mean picture the worst shit you've seen in a movie... hair in the drain, the shower head literally fell off when I turned it on, steaks and cloudiness on literally everything that was wiped down and at that point I was not even willing to so much as look at the bed. Well, after the cops left I did too and I went out to my truck - literally only about 2 hours worth of being parked in the parking lot - found that someone had backed into it and destroyed the rear bumper, tailgate, ds taillight, and even the damn fender. Whatever they did was part of the reason I wasn't staying at that motel. Probably drunk... who knows. They left me a phone number at least.... but wow, trying to get insurance info? forget about it. I mean seriously, you hit someone and you leave a phone number?

Not even worth going into the rest of the stupidity, but it was for sure a night I will never forget. So you are not alone, and sorry you had this happen to you. It's a low life move and the trash that pulls these stunts deserve to be publicly flogged. And no, I am not kidding.
