What Have You Done To Your 2nd Gen Tacoma Today?

I've been looking for those LED backlit grilles, finally found one I like on Facebook. Waiting on my wheels and tires for now though before I do anything else major lol. I need to find a paint matched grille bezel and get rid of the chrome one on mine LOL

 

Installed the Spyder headlights from Tacoma Beast last week.

 

This guy doing mine matches paint. I will keep you posted and share pics when I get it.

 

installed some used Deavers Stage 2. scored these from a cool ass dude on instagram. i got about a 2.5" lift with these. def leveled out the truck nicely. and man do these feel and ride nice!!! worth the money for sure!!

what were you on in the rear prior to the Deavers?

 

Just finished changing diff and transfer case fluid along with greasing the driveshaft and doing another application of Fluid Film. I dont know how long its supposed to take but it took me 5 hours. It also took longer because the previous owner stripped the front diff fill plug so I had to hammer the Allen head in but it came out after that. I'm guessing it's been a long time since the front was changed because it was jet black or looked like used motor oil where as the rear diff looked amber colored.

After all that it coasts much better, shifts from 1st to 2nd smoother, and accelerates much better.

 

Made it to an important goal today. Truck has never let me down. Only major work done to it has been when the frame was replaced under warranty in March 2017.

Only had one other vehicle that made it this far. My 1992 Chevy S-10 Blazer made it to 280K before I traded it in and got $ 100.00 for it. Body was rusting in all the usual spots, exhaust system was holy, front suspension was a joke, door handles were held on with drywall screws, rear window hinge was broken and patched together, AC didn't work until you hit 100MPH, valve stems seals were replaced, Multiple fuel pumps, new alternator, both front wheel hubs had been replaced by 100K,replaced blower motor switch due to small fire, at least one water pump, rebuilt tranny at 176K (expected that), 4 wheel drive quit before 200K, drivers window would not roll down, and I am sure I have forgotten many other things. Despite nickel and diming me to death I never had a problem with the 4.0 V6 - it ran like a clock while everything else fell apart around it. I drove the truck to Richmond and back couple days before I traded it in - I trusted it. I drove it for work and I drove it hard making laps around the beltway. Also hit a good sized deer with it and it got mildly rear-end twice at the same stop sign.

 

I think you did really well to get all that in in 5 hours. I just did my annual wool wax treatment two weeks ago. I like to pull the engine splash guards and drop the spare and really get in there. All that prep takes a frickin' ton of time. I like your all wheel lift solution!

Well I only did the front diff and transfer case fluids today and I did the rear diff last night so it's more like 5.5 hours in total for just fluids and maybe a half hour for greasing. Also I didn't have any skid plates to remove and I didnt remove slash guards and I didnt have to do an in depth spraying because I had it done about 2 or so months ago so it wasnt every part of the frame but I still used 3 cans. I could have left it alone but I thought what the heck it's already lifted up and it wont get up into the mid 60s until next year.

Thank you. I honestly feel these are much better than jack stands for me at least. They are much heavier than jack's but seem way more solid. I only had to get over the sound of them cracking because I used some almost 15 year old planks that were really dried out. I put the truck in 4 low and barely had to give it any gas to get to the top. I have a closer up pic if you want to get a better look at them.

I do it once in the fall, usually earlier when it's warmer. Drop the front skid plate and all five wheels. EVERYTHING. spray the skid as well as everything steel I can get to. This year I bought the gallon cans and sprayed it on. Really made it easier. In the long run I'm counting on it paying off. I like your lift idea for fluid maintenance though. drop em and drive on em, boom 4-5 inches of extra space. Quick and safe.

 

If you do make them make sure you post a pic but heres the general measurements for the ones I have. I was not the one who came up with this idea. When I was researching them I saw many people who made theses much taller than the ones I have.
Edit: I have even thought about adding some paint that contains grit which would help with traction but I didnt have any issues with my tires slipping.

 

I don't see the tail light. I see some bailing wire though. Either way welcome to TW.

 

I’m at 110,500 miles and just got the following done for the first time.

Transmission flush
Differential fluid
Brake fluid
Powering steering fluid

I feel like my truck shifts better now. I’m definitely going to try and keep up with the maintenance better for the next 100k.

Also got a Snugtop and Prinsu rack last month.

 

Super fun few days in Mammoth. It snowed just a little bit
