Yea, and same.. It really doesn't take long to use up that 15Gb either. I originally put a sim card in the head unit but I didn't want to pay for 2 phone plans

That's kinda where I'm at. I think I'll stick to using CarPlay. I do stream Sling at home and have it loaded on the unit. But I can't see any uses for it currently.

Does Sling play live TV in the truck? I cant get any of the apps to play video (Netflix, Disney, etc.) and I have unlimited hotspot access. The apps give the error messages and state they arent compatible with this device? I wasn't even able to find them in the Play Store but was hoping that by side loading they would work. Is it possible I need to change a setting in the stereo itself?

The only live TV app that I could get to work was Tablo, which is a live stream through my rooftop antenna on my house.

Is it a "regular" sim card that goes into the stereo? Could I go to TMobile and get a sim card and just insert it? I think I could add one for about $10/mo since I already have 5 lines through TMobile.

I'll check when I get off work. I got it downloaded the same day I installed the headunit, but I never tested it.

As a reminder to those that posted earlier in the thread, be careful with which carrier you try to use as I remember there are some carriers that do not approve of this device on their network. Read back for more info, but specifically I remember folks saying Verizon was a no-go, t-mobile may work for some.

UPDATE: I figured out how to install Netflix onto the Joying stereo. You can Google the phrase "Netflix apkmirror 4.16.1 build 15145". Then click on the link to the apkmirror website. Download version 4.16.1 and then install. After you open Netflix, you will get a screen that asks if you want to update to the latest version - hit Cancel. If you update to latest version, it wont work. Then log into Netflix and you are all set.

T-Mobile works, I have a free line installed in mine.

It's also a regular voice line, even though the device can't receive calls.

Is there anything special I need to tell TMobile when wanting to add a line for the Joying stereo? Is it just a regular sim card that I would use for a cell phone?

I pulled mine from a phone, never said anything to them, so I can't give you 100% advice. I believe it's a nano SIM, but I'm not 1000% sure on that. I'd go through T Force on Twitter if you have an account, it's so much easier than calling or visiting a store. You'll get hit with a fee for changing account stuff in store now, I think. Plus the cost of the SIM.

I tested Live TV and could not get it to play. I did however stream a On Demand movie/show and it played just fine.

EDIT: my service was spotty at work though, but found it strange the On Demand played just fine.

Yep. I think it might be a nano sim but it's been awhile.. I tried Google fi in mine and it worked. Haven't tried Tmob but it should work.

I work from home so Im still deciding if the $10/mo is worth the inconvenience of having to reconnect everyday when I drive. I do like the idea of having a sim card in there to streamline the process and remove my hotspot from my phone, but I dont drive a ton so still considering this.

I didnt install the 4G antennas when I put the stereo in so I guess I'd need to do that too.

Yea I just kinda stuck the 4g antenna on top of the unit and it was still able to get a good signal, even being inside the dash.

And yea, personally the only time tethering doesn't quite cut it is on a long road trip as I burn through all my 15GB of tethering data on my phone. I have Verizon though. I think Tmobile maybe has a lot higher limits on data?

One thing that is really really nice about having a sim card in it though is tracking. If your truck were to get stolen you could track it like any other android device since it's constantly connected to cellular and GPS

Issues with sound not working after restarting the truck I unplug this connector and sound comes back but I lose the back up camera. Any thoughts why I lose sound everytime I restart the truck? If I plug the connector back in when the trucks running everything works fine. Just stops when restarted

There are 2 USB connections on back of Joying stereo. Does it matter which one I connect to the factory USB for wired CarPlay or wired Android Auto to work?
One USB is labeled OTG USB and the other is labeled USB
