Looking for some thoughts/opinions/advice. I currently have a stock 2020 SR5 4WD Tacoma and would like to modify the tires and wheels as I live here in Denver Colorado and do a fair amount of snow/freeway/dirt road driving.

Currently have stock 16" wheels, but looking to updgrade to 17", 265/70/17 tires. Would love to hear from other folks that did this, did you have to level your truck, lift it?

There is lots of info on the forums but I can give you my direct experience which is relevant. I have a 2021 SR5 4x4 (no lift) with factory 16x7 wheels. I put 265/75/16 BFG KO2's on the truck, and have fully stuffed it forward, backward, left, right while off roading numerous times and have never rubbed. 265/70/17 are the same diameter/width as my 265/75/16's (within probably a millimeter if that). Keep in mind, changing wheel offset or backspacing could affect the rubbing situation, but not highly likely from what I've read.

Personally, I like the look of more tire, less wheel, but it is all preference and in these two cases, they will be the same size overall.

Say hi to Boulder for me (was a Buff) !

Welcome. :deadhorse: that should fit no problem as long as you stay away from crazy negative offset wheels.

Curious why you want to switch to a 17" tire? I upsized to 265/75/16 which is the same diameter, but in a 16".

To answer your question, you do not need to lift/level it, as there is no rubbing with that size, unless you get rims with a different offset.

But a little lift/level, looks sooo much better.

Super helpful. I think I will stick with the 16" and leaning towards the Falken WildPeak AT3W - any opinion on 265/70/16 vs. 265/75/16. Going with the P rated tire

The 75 series tire will obviously have a larger/taller sidewall, and most would say it looks way better, but beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Here's a couple shots of my 2021 SR5 with stock 16's and 265/75r16 Cooper Discoverer AT-3 tires. Love 'em. No rubbing at all, great in the snow and rain. My Dad has the Falkens on his Tundra and swears by those, so I'd recommend either brand.
