I know somewhere herein this has been discussed a bit, but has anyone come up with solid ideas to prevent the running of the water into the back seat. I've seen L-bracket, GFC mods, someone made some out of sheet metal... TIA

 

the GFC mod is about the only thing so far. I think only real options are redirecting it to the cab or closer to the back of the cab. id be open to others but only ones I have seen.

 

Is the drip issue mainly when the top is up, down, or all the time?
Searching on Amazon and Ebay comes up with a number of stick-on drip rails. Maybe some one with an X1 could look at those? I don’t have mine yet, so not knowing the details of the issue, that’s the best I can come up with.

The drip issue only occurs when it rains with tent down since it overhangs a little on the side.

 

In that case, it seems like one of the stick-on drip rails stuck to the extrusion and slanted down a bit toward the back of the door might help. It should work like a gutter.
Just a thought.

 

It def happens when it’s open and up. just a placket that’s inevitable without some add on. Just went though it over the weekend.

 

I’ve had a similar issue with every cab-over camper I’ve had. Adding side stick on gutters helped, but never found anything reliable for the front. Wifey always hated getting in and out of the cab in the rain.
I don’t think any pickup in the last 20 years has had a rain gutter.

 

My bad my poor choice of words. I shouldn’t have said only when it’s down. I should’ve said it does it both when the tent is up and down. It rains a lot here in the PNW so I notice it more going in and out of the truck when I do drive it.

 

I've speculated here before and I'll say it again...

A roof rack that is extended wide enough to catch the water from the camper overhang. Channel the water toward the center of the cab roof where it will then hit the gutter rails (aka roof rack mounting area) and run to the windshield or behind the cab.

I haven't bothered prototyping anything yet as I am still considering what this means during snow and ice. Currently not having any rack allows me to easily brush the snow off.

 

It doesn't help that the extrusion drains out the front corners - that said, I bet someone could CAD up something similar to the drip cover for the GFC

 

It's hard to solve for all use cases... The overhang mounted ones like for the GFC would be fine outside of freezing, not sure how it would do when the water turns frozen as it's dripping into it.

 

What do yall do about filling your diesel tank for your diesel heaters that are in the camper? Is your hose long enough to take the tank out to refill or has anyone had luck with some quick release connectors?

 

yeah its been fine so far leaving mounted. I also mounted the remote below and one up top!

 

Thanks! Yeah I asked that before opening the box. For now I just used the plastic stick on mount it came with, to the underside of the roof panel. No issues staying up there so far. I mounted one remote down below as well, should have tested it first. Its signal doesn't reach the light from where I mounted it. Seems it can't even go through the tent fabric never mind the floor panels. Not a big deal since I can reach the light while laying down and turn it off by hand. I still like my headlamp better for reading with but the mounted light is nice when changing/setting up for bed.

Forgot to post this.. Some Feedback on the Exped + Sleeping bag and closing.

First of all the Exped is bad.. ass! The first night was a quick setup at night so we didn't give it time to fully inflate itself. Night 2 was when we really experienced the Exped and how it works and how comfortable it is. Blew us away. It, paired with our awesome sleeping bag.. made for crazy comfortable sleep. Was worried we wouldn't be able to fit our Teton 0-degree 2 person sleeping bag up in the tent when closed.. but.. I can report it does fit. Some work.. but it does close and latch. We've had this sleeping bag for 4 years now and even for the RTT it was some work to get it to close up nicely, so maybe the time with it before helped with the X1. I'm so glad it fits and we can pop it open and just climb in. Insanely fast setup now. When closing, I just pull the sides of the bag in, away from the sides and the front/pivot of the tent.. and leave some of the new style rear Floor Molle panels exposed to let air escape the tent during closing. Standing on the tailgate I tuck the 3 sides in as I go.. and usually climb up on the each tire at the end to tuck and ensure all tent material is clear of the struts (as that's the biggest area for pinching/closing issues I've found) and then hop up on the top, sit and latch the tent.

For reference. Here's the Sleeping bag. It's 94x62. We leave one rear floor Molle panel in for a table, and the other out for quick in/out. The sleeping bag has a Mummy hood/Pillow keeper.. that I just rolled under the Exped, which honestly created a nice enough pillow to where you wouldn't even need any. At that point everything you need is up there in the tent for easy, quick deployment.

@XPOTRPR so let me get this right, you jump up on the roof and sit on it and then latch the top close? Is that right? How much do you deflate the Exped? I was using mine this weekend and had to deflate it a lot. But, I just pulled the top down and let it latch itself with minor amount of pressure pushing down. So I'm not using a bunch for force to get the top close.

 

I've never had to put much force to close it either. Just push on each corner near the latch and snap it closed. I haven't been leaving a sleeping bag or other stuff on top of the mattress though. Which means I don't need to deflate the mattress much. I just open the air escape valve while sitting/laying on it, and give each side up front a squeeze before closing the valve. Never had any issue. I got an electric air pump to help get more air out which should allow me to keep the sleeping bag up top. Haven't used it yet. Shouldn't be any need to sit on the camper roof to close it.
