Just bought the RC 6” lift kit with adjustable Vertex coils. Should I return it?

I love working on my taco and I desperately need a lift but I kind of got hasty and bought the most expensive lift for my pickup. I plan to do the install myself, with help from my friends. I’ve heard a lot of horror stories about RC but plenty more happy customers.

What’s your opinion? Is it too late to return? I love installing new things but I’m not sure I have the money to spare if something goes completely wrong.

All depends what you want out of your truck.
You want to go bombin through the desert as fast as possible then the RC kit might not be right.

You will get some haters because of the 6" lift and it being RC but to each thier own.

I can however say that with any major modifications there will always be at least one unforseen expense haha

Uhh its your truck, why do you care what anybody else thinks? If youre already regretting then you should return it since you already mentioned you dont have more money to spare. With that kind of mod you will most likely need to spend extra $ to get everything working properly and safely. Why do you 'desperately' need a lift?

I need a lift for higher clearance and deep snow. I also plan to take it on rough trails in Colorado. I guess I exaggerated when I said I don’t have money to spare, I’m just cheap sometimes and I’m trying to treat myself a bit.

What I’m really trying to ask is, what are your experiences with the kit if you’ve used it? Did it actually “ruin” your truck or has it been going strong for a few years?

I've had the RC 6" lift installed on mine for almost 5 years now on and offroad and have no complaints. I recently installed the vertex setup and it rides waaaay better than stock. I did make some improvements on the 6" lift however. I noticed other lift kits have a support bracket on the rear crossmember for the front suspension that bolts to cut section so I made one for mine. Also, if you plan on doing skid plates with ANY 6" lift thats a no-go. I was able to install an RCI trans and transfer case skid plate to my setup but had to modify the crap out of the trans skid plate to get it to fit.

That 6” kit won’t make a bit of difference in deep snow than a 3” kit. If you like deep snow , it about set up, tire flotation etc.

My worker has a RC 6" lift for mud bogging and he is always breaking shit. Truck drives like shit on the road and he already regeared twice as he moved up in tire size. I think he is rolling 37s now. In deep snow a 1" lift is all you need. Trust me I go where Jeeps with 4" inch lifts and 35s get stuck. Snow is all about the set up (weight and tires) and driving skills. As for Colorado trails. I would recommend buying the best quality parts you can. Then a 3" lift with at least 33s and a full skid to run 98% of the trails. Send RC kit back and decide what type of use your vehicle will be getting. 6" lifts are cool but it comes at a price.

Run down to Toytec. Tell them what you want to do and have them set you up. They’re in Denver.

For $3k you're gonna be way happier with 2.5-3" lift via a remote res and adjustable 2.5 shock a la Fox, ADS, Elka or that blue company the bros really like.

6" is for looks (and small winkies) not actual performance.

OP: a drop bracket lift is not bolt on, removing is not easy.

Fat and wide works great in the snow, it’s like flotation on sand. C5AF6530-03DA-47D3-8F43-FC1B90D31CD7.jpg

Most Colorado trails aren’t very big and you’ll want full skids! Would be skeptical of all the bolt together parts of a DB lift loosening or tweeting out of place with all the boulders and trail flex. 3” with remote resi and skids have done me well out here. 63” leaf swap will help too!

take a look at this picture, yes fat n wide will work very well with correct pressure to allow flotation on this surface, hard packed snow.
You wanna have fun and carve your own path thru deep untouched snow, your not going far with fat n wide

Watch arctic truck videos, that truck literally will go thru deep snow zero issues. Skinny tires have there purposes I agree. But with skinnies once you get in deep and don’t find any hard pack under the soft stuff and the frame and axles are buried you’re going nowhere. The purpose of those big fatties and low tire pressure is they’ll pack the soft stuff right under their own foot print and you just keep on going.

Yes, return it and go with a quality 3” lift. That drop bracket is more for looks than off-road capability

I have the Fabtech 6" and I absolutely hate it. If you want a mall crawler then definitely keep it. However if you want to take it off road and do not want to break shit or feel every pot hole jar through your dome then bite the bullet and do coil overs like I am. Good luck
