So I’ve recently had a noise coming from my front cover it’s sounds like it’s coming from the oil pump cover itself. Sounds as if the pump is rattling inside the cover like the cover is Worn out for the pump to spin. there seems to be wear marks on the cover on the lower part of the pump.

How many miles on it? Could be timing chain, they sound like that when the guides wear out or the tensioner isn't doin it's job any more.

Also could be something as simple as a pulley. You can use a piece of vacuum line like a stethoscope to try and pinpoint where the sound is coming from.

Short story I put the harmonic balancer on wrong it damaged the small sprocket behind the cover I replaced it and now my oil pump sounds to be making noise. I’m thinking the timing cover is worn

Ah, so there was more to the story. Gotcha. How's your oil pressure? It might suck but you may have to tear it back down...

It’s fine as far as I know oil light never on. I’ve taken off the pump cover and looked at the gears there is wear on the timing cover where the pump sits and I think it’s worn to the point the pump possibly may have play

Just be cautious with oil pressure. The light comes on at 4psi. That's extremely low. So it could be at 5psi and the light will stay off, which sucks, but that isn't near enough pressure to last. With play in the pump it may not be able to keep the proper pressure. I'm not saying that this will def happen, or is happening, but something to be weary about.

Well how can I see a get a number on the pressure. I’m not sure how it wouldn’t make pressure I’ve spun it inside and it works fine. It just seems to be making noise which it could be rubbing the cover. Not sure honestly

You can remove the oil pressure sensor and connect an actual gauge. You can even install a T fitting between the pressure sensor and block and then install a gauge. Not so sure of any other way. The oil pressure sensor is just below the exhaust manifold on the passenger side. BPT (British pipe thread) tapered fitting. I don't remember the size, just know it's not a straight tapped fitting

At this point though it might be worth it to just get a new oil pump gear and a new pump cover(or timing cover, which ever is showing signs of wear)

The pump doesn't really have any room to wiggle around in there when everything is installed

But the chain does.. I'd pull the valve cover and look down at the guides and chain components

Ive pulled off the cover and the chain was tight I had replaced the small crank timing sprocket behind the cover because when I put the balancer on wrong it cracked it. I reset the chain and it was tight so.

I was more or less lite heartedly joking. But if your oil pressure drops too much then you can have what happened to me...bearings got ate up from no oil pressure so it needed a rebuild anyway, I just wanted to build it to handle more boost, so I did.

Quick question.. is it possible for when the crank pully went on wrong the crank isn’t spinning correctly in the front now so that’s why the pump gears hit the timing cover?

I would be more worried about damage to the crank key, key seat, on the HB and the shaft....

If that seat is not true, you may get a slight wobble......and the HB internal rubber bushing may be flexing.....
