I’m hearing this a lot. What can cause an issue in the driveline?

18-26 mph in 3rd gear with the auto sounds like low rpm and sluggish, but I wouldn’t expect it to jerk and shake.

If I were to stomp the gas pedal on my 6mt in 3rd gear at that speed I could expect some hiccups, but not with a gentle touch.

I’m guessing the auto downshifts to 2nd when you give it the beans, mitigating the issue.

Normal 3rd gen Tacoma transmission shifting erratically. No other vehicle on the planet shifts around like a 3rd gen Taco.

The two things that come to mind are that the engine is not running correctly or that you are lugging it, but it’s uncommon to lug an engine with an automatic transmission. The transmission would need to be dysfunctional or confused by your modifications.

Does it seem to be misfiring? Do you hear knocking noise like a diesel?

Mira only with a gentle touch. It hesitates. Hard to explain but for example, I’m in traffic and it comes to a stop and starts to move again im barley on the gas and the slower I reach 18 to 26 ish mph it hesitates. That’s the best way I can explain it

I would have to drive it to offer any other opinions. If it annoys you, take it to a mechanic you trust.

Did it do this before the lift that was just installed? I am guessing that a Rough Country lift is using blocks on the springs instead of a leaf change? if so, check that the U bolts are torqued correctly and no signs of relative movement between the blocks/leafs/bolts just to rule that out.

It's not weird shifting or transmission, it's the torque converter in slip lock.

I’m kinda having a hard time pinning down your exact symptoms.
The driveline or “ propeller shaft” is in sections. Those sections are connected via U joints or universal Joints. They go bad due to age or neglected greasing.
causing vibration issues and it can be from mild to incredibly violent and if they fail can be catastrophic. The cups
On the ends contain needle bearings

    Clickbait title for sure…

but might by drive shaft u-joint. I had this happen on my 2012 somewhat recently.
