thinking of CRV to '21 DCSB...

    .... for my wife. Sorry for long post, just trying to get some outside input.


    We got her a 2019 CRV, new, and it just hit 10K miles last week. After seeing more and more used cars going for silly prices, it looks like we should get, at the minimum, about what we got it for. Its not paid off yet, but really think about trading up to a '21 DCSB with 2.7l.

    Ive never even been in a DC tacoma but have driven a '10 AC daily since new, and '12 Reg Cab 4x4 (5sp) for hunting/work for the past 5 years... Both have the 2.7l and I know what it is and what it isn't. I don't have any interest in getting rid of my trucks that are at 85k and 89k respectively, especially since the Tundra remodel.

    The CRV is a great little car. For me, wife, and 3 yr old it fits the bill and does everything we need and had planned to keep it long term. But if we can trade up I'm having a hard time not wanting too.

    We/she doesn't need the bed for cargo, or really need more than the CRV, but I like Tacomas and she has said she would drive a truck. We don't travel long distances regularly, don't commute far, but the DC would be the family car because of the car seat for the next few years.

    it would be a little more convenient to take the family to the farm, or take baby girl hunting in the upcoming years since I hunt out of the Reg cab.

    Any thoughts would be appreciated.

    Hi! Like you, I've had AC and reg cabs for most my life. This time -- last August -- I decided I needed the extra room of a DC. I'm very glad I went the DC route. The extra space for my dog and stuff is definitely worth it. I also opted for the V6, even though I've preferred the 2.7L over the years too. Once again, this motor is very strong and quite efficient, even with a 4x4. I'd recommend that too. Best wishes on the new Tacoma.

    I have both. The CR-V is my daily cause double cab Tacoma is a tight fit for car seats.

    Um why? I can't follow the logic in your first post so guessing I can't really contribute. If the wifey doesn't need a truck and it'll mostly be a grocery getter and kid hauler then perhaps a RAV4 or maybe 4Runner? Or is it that you want the truck for occasional use and it'll be her daily pounding the pavement with a carseat and empty cargo area?

    I have both as well and would not trade the CRV for a Tacoma. The CRV is a beast is the winter with AWD. Tons of room for passengers and just a better overall everyday vehicle in my opinion.

    If you have the 1.5T get a Hondata Flashpro for it, so much more enjoyable to drive.

    if lots of people are saying that, it must be a tight fit... It won't be long until she is in a booster, but then I guess once she is a big kid in a booster itll go back to being tight.

    It is not the 1.5 T, we went with the 2.4 non turbo.

    I think the Ridgeline would be a great alternative for her, but she doesn't care for them. If she is getting into a truck itll only be a Tacoma.

    Occasional use in the fact that Itll get the family to the farm a little more easily. CRV is FWD and does fine for most part when not wet and can pick a line around certain rocks/holes/etc, but I don't test its ability but so much.

    Agree about 4Runner and Rav4, will also look at Pilots. Really just trying to get input since market is so odd and might have the opportunity to get into something a few years newer while is feasible for no extra monthly.

    My wife drives a ‘21 CRV EX AWD, I have a DCSB OR - but they are really different animals. She doesn’t like the size or park-ability (or lack of) of the Tacoma in comparison. We traded her ‘20k mile ‘18 early this year for a ‘21 for very little, now the ‘21 is worth 3500 more as a trade - so - we now have a Rav 4 hybrid XSE AWD on order. We are able to buy at or around invoice, so it makes sense for us. The dealer loves our trades, and sells them well, so it’s a win- win.
    We have neighbors that both have Tacomas, hers an SR5 2x and his an Off Road 4X, they have small kids, and love their trucks. They leased both new this summer.

    I love new trucks. I get it. And if it makes you happy, that counts for something. Life’s short. But, I had a double cab when my kids were smaller and we always chose my wife’s Subaru Forester when loading up the family. The Forester is a good comparison to your CRV. My experience would say to keep the CRV for now. Just easier and more useful for day-to-day family stuff. And the cargo space is important with small kids. If you really want to dump the CRV, I’d probably still recommend another small or mid SUV, especially since you already have a truck(s) in the family. You know, unless you just gotta have another one. :bananadance:

    This sounds like a job for the 4Runner. I have a 2018 Tacoma dbl cab and my wife has a 2020 4Runner. We have two kids and all that comes with it. Look harder at the 4Runner.
