EV's are only as good as the ELECTRIC GRID they have to plug into to recharge! :hattip:

Yeah, don’t they still sell it in South Africa and Australia?

Never was a fan, rather have a 4Runner or Lexus GX.

Yeah, and I believe the middle east. I also like the 4Runner better but oddly enough, I don't believe they had a 4Runner concept in the release.

I'd like TT V6 as well. But I have a feeling that's overkill for little Taco like the dying V8s or the full sizes.

So we settle for a 4 banger hybrid ? And EV option ?

They will use the speakers for that. It’s like how the ford raptor and BMW M cars make fake engine noises for the cabin.

Can’t find the article I was reading. But here is the philosophy from the main global site.

    Under “Mission”

    “We look forward, not backward.”

This seems like a sizable improvement over the Rivian and Tesla trucks, good to see that Toyota is not radically changing the styling given that the 3rd generation Tacoma is beautiful.

Any thoughts/guesses on whether they would only offer a double-cab short-bed like Rivian is doing? 6 foot bed is a hard requirement for those of us that like to sleep in the back (without the elaborate/expensive bed tent contraption).

Toyota using e-TNGA platform to build their EVs.

Problem with TNGA is it was meant for ICE vehicles with a transmission, engine etc.

The newer EV startups are using the skateboard platform with a lot of the components integrated together, like in-wheel motors, to increase efficiency, like power delivery and weight.

Its the reason Lucid Air got more than 500mi range.

I'm waiting to see what Toyota manages to squeeze from this platform.

They had to do it this way since retrofitting old manufacturing lines is expensive so they had to use the old platform for ICE vehicles.

Manufacturing scale and old money works in their favor.

They'll be out to market with EVs faster than all the other EV startups.

Somehow you wrote that huge diatribe and you missed the most important part of what I wrote, which is that you don’t have to own all the batteries.

This makes the car cheaper to buy in the first place since you don’t have to purchase more than a basic battery, but you can get more range anytime you want it.

You have a basic battery in your car and when you want more temporary power you get pre-charged batteries installed.

Anyhow, as long as every electric car company has their own batteries the situation will never be economical.

Finally, my neighbor who is a fire captain explained to me how difficult it is to put out a flaming electric vehicle. Essentially you just keep putting water on it until it burns itself out because you can’t stop it.

Let’s put one of those in everybody’s garage, along with the Tesla power wall that you cannot extinguish if it starts to burn. You just keep pouring water on the house until it all burns itself out.

There is a guy in my neighborhood who has/had a Tesla and the charger caught his garage on fire. Luckily he caught it in time to not burn down his whole house. Haven’t seen the Tesla there in a while.

I'm not even sure where to begin with this comment. First off: I did actually address what you stated about owning your own batteries in my comment. See the third paragraph.

Second off: while electric vehicle fires can happen, the fears on that are largely overblown. I, too, have heard the fears about it from the local fire department I actually work with. But it is about as likely as the gas tank in your car catching fire. It can happen but the likelihood under normal circumstances is not high. Especially when you consider that these companies have had to account for that for years and electric cars are not new and will continue to evolve, as will fire fighting/prevention technology.

Thirdly: if you're worried about your house burning down before being put out I have some bad news for you if you have a house built within the last 20-30 years. Modern houses burn much faster than older homes, which are also known as legacy houses. Materials in modern houses are often laced with deadly chemicals as well, making the odds of survival much lower. This all compounded by the "better" construction materials used in things such as trusses, which are stronger than traditional methods, but also have a much lower melting point and therefore the collapse of the structure is going to happen much sooner. But I digress.

Edit: also, the link to the message you are quoting doesn't seem to go to the actual comment you're trying to address.

EV advancement is nothing at all like the industrial revolution, the introduction of steam and internal combustion engines, or the difference between a horse and automobile. Not even close haha.

EV advancement is going from a horse that runs on oats and hay to a slightly smaller horse that can run on a little less oats and hay, albeit converted into whatever you want to plug in as more economical.

They’re not going to completely and entirely advance the way the entire planet goes about surviving, thriving, and living their lives. EVs will simply be another option on the road.

They won’t fully replace combustion engines, ever. There certainly won’t be solely electric airplanes, heavy machinery, industrial plants or long range heavy haulers.

They’ll be a car on the road like every other car in the road except they can’t drive as far and cost a ton more in order to cost a little less. Please don’t compare a combustion engine Tacoma and an EV Tacoma and think of horse to automobile haha that’s nuts.

Well EV's don't cost a ton more and save a lot more to go the same miles. They are also a tool to reduce carbon emissions going into the air. Current issues are charge times and production pollutants all which are being addressed. It's still an evolving sector of the car market.

It’s obviously evolving, yes. But does anyone actually think that it will have the same level of effect on the world as the industrial revolution and steam and then combustion engines did? The same drastic difference in capability, the same giant leap as going from horses to automobiles did? That’s not just a stretch, it’s more than that ha.

I’m glad to see electric options expanding and growing and advancing. I just don’t pretend we’ll be solving world hunger and ending all wars and flying in cities in the sky over it.

I understand your points. I don't think EV's are the only solution to curb harmful air pollutants it is however an important part since ICE vehicles are the most polluting out of all. Doing something is better than nothing.

I’m not convinced they help enough to justify the cost in the long run. Seems we’re destroying the planet to save the planet, destroying habitats and lives to bring down the temperature which isn’t even a guarantee we will have any effect at all with this route. I’d rather see nuclear energy take off than electric, seeing as it can actually sustain something. Have you seen the amount of solar panels in the desert for portions of CA? And the amount of wildlife and land they kill? Have you seen how they’ve ruined my skyline here with endless wind turbines just to kill a bunch of birds and barely make up their cost in how many years? Electric cars are the same once you trace the total input and cost. Seems to be too little good, if not downright harmful, and certainly inefficient. I’m willing to look at any data otherwise. I have no agenda here. Just doesn’t seem to add up with what research I’ve done. Could be wrong.

I think they need to market these cars correctly, as performance powerhouses, lowering fuel cost (even if the upfront cost and charger install and some risks are much higher), and as an epic push in the market for gas powered dinosaurs to keep up and compete. Electric is awesome. Love electric vehicles. Just nix the idea that they’ll save the planet and market them for what they are, extremely awesome machines.
