Never owned a Toyota before. Recently bought a Wrangler and I was able to get 7% under invoice by traveling for it. Is there a similar network of dealers offering discount on a new Tacoma?

    Thanks for any guidance!
    Pete

Hey Pete, I have a 2022 on order waiting for it to come in any day now. These trucks are selling well before hitting the lot, so as far as im aware there arent any discounts on them. All dealers I have seen have been sold out before the trucks are even built.

Crap. I have a lot to learn about the process with Toyota. So... am I able to "order" one or is it based on allotment? I'm looking for a 2022 TRD Pro in the new green color. Which I have to guess is going to be very sought after?

It's all based on allotment. You can't custom order a Tacoma but your dealer can work with you and try to get something close to what you want via allotment or trading allotments with another dealer

All of the dealers I've talked to are just getting allotments in and customers pick from what's allotted. I'm not sure how the Pro is going, but from what my dealer told me, Toyota isn't taking any custom orders and they just get what Toyota allots them.

I checked last week at my local dealer Grants Pass Toyota in Southern Oregon. There are placing orders for MSRP and expect 8 to 12 weeks for your truck to arrive. I suspect if you ordered something not as popular like an access cab manual it could take even longer. Are you adding to the car collection or is the wrangler not what you expected?

Unfortunately not in this economy with a surplus of shortages. Seems most are happy to pay msrp. All orders are based upon dealer allotment, but any dealer should be able to order one for you with the options you want or find a close match for you from another dealer.

Allotment just means the dealer has the ability to order the vehicle. I suppose parts availability might affect what options you can choose from. I'm sure you can find what you want and get it in 2-3 months.

I assume a lot of dealers will go well above MSRP on a PRO...

Same here. Got a 2022 Super White coming in soon. Definitely not my first choice in color, especially with Toyota's reputation with white paint. But imo it still looks good on these trucks.

I know the new car manager personally at my local Toyota dealership. Inventory is still well below pandemic levels. So instead of making a smaller profit on many vehicles, they have to make a larger profit on a few.

That's how business works. Bills have to be paid

Mine is closing in on 7 years old and is holding up just fine. Gets waxed once a year. Built in Mexico in '15

Looks great. I definitely baby my vehicles, so I'm not terribly worried about the paint. Especially since I can park in a garage now

Sold the Wrangler for more than I had in it. I didn't have the stomach for the crappy quality, which is why I'm looking at the Taco. :)

I had a '16 DCSB Tacoma this time last year, got a wild hair the day before Christmas and bought a 2016 JKU, it was in the shop for over a month fixing leaking issues. I finally had enough, fiance hated it, so I bought a new civic hatch in April. It's actually appreciated in value since I bought it and put 6,500 miles on it. Figured now is the time to jump ship back to the one truck that I really liked.

There is a lot of boxes the Wrangler checks for me and does it better than Toyota. A diesel motor that gets above 20mpg even with 35" mud tires for starters. A lot of other good features too. I don't think I could stomach owning it out of warranty though. Reliability is the box Toyota checks.

What makes it harder for me is that we won't buy a truck if it doesn't have a manual transmission... so the only Wrangler/Gladiator for me is the gas. Which is why we're at the Tacoma now.
OTOH... if they made a Gladiator with a manual and a diesel, I'd roll the dice and buy and keep it.

But, oh my... they are junk. Even help from the factory is terrible. Once I saw the paint peeling off the hinges, I said, "Nope. I'm out."

Don't buy a super white tacoma as mentioned above then. Well known for paint flaking and adhesion issues on here.
