You got the wrong truck/vehicle if concerned about gas mileage, I would do as others have said and buy a commuter.

Nice! I was simply stating that op could get a commuter like a civic for better gas mileage if it matters that much. Wasn’t being so serious. But no offense taken. Maybe I’m missing the point. I wasn't saying how if he wants a few mpgs of improvement. I got 40 mpg on the civic and am down to 18-24 on my truck. If I cared about mpg I would have kept my civic.

My point being, technology/engineering has regressed even with stricter mpg requirements!!

Easiest thing you can do is step on the gas less hard - acceleration sucks fuel.

That’s the same mileage I got in my 1994 Chevy with a v8 and 285/75/16s

Ah. I think the op also has modified their vehicle with larger tires and a lift so therefore worsening their mpg. I understand the point though.

Also, had a NEW '92 full size Chevy 4x4, regular cab, 6 cylinder, 5 speed that got similar mpg's. And my last Tundra ('07 or '09 I forget) extended cab 4x4 with the underpowered 4.7 got only 1 or 2 mpg less than my current Tacoma does.

Best way to get better mpg from a Tacoma is to park it and buy a Prius. :p

Bone stock with 245 P rated tires mine would average 21 a tank, and that is driving really conservatively, nothing over 65 mph, leaving stops gently, basically I am the slowest guy on the road. Now with 265/70/16 Blizzaks on it is 17-19.

First. Are you depending on the computer for mpg numbers because it is not taking into consideration the larger diameter of the bigger tires.

See if you can buy or borrow someone's stock steelies with the highway 245/75/16. You'll be amazed at the mileage difference if you keep your foot outta the throttle.

I agree with several members that say go back to stock size tire BUT also consider the weight.. there are 265 tires that weight >11lbs more than the stock tires.

To over-simplify your issue is 5% lift and 95% tires. No need to lower the truck unless you don't like the look with stock size tires.

238.221 MPH record speed. Hate to tell you this but that is way past criminal speed. Don't know a single cop that wouldn't have had you in the back seat on the way to the jail and a tow truck on the way for the car

OP, it appears you have 285/70 Wildpeak AT3s and a quick Google says they're 63 lbs each. That's a full 20 lbs heavier PER TIRE than the stock Goodyear Kevlars.

    Agreed.

My 2004 V6 Tacoma got 20MPG stock. Supercharged it and threw 33x12.50's on it...and it still got 20MPG.

My 2008 V6 Tacoma got 20MPG stock...upsized tires slightly to 265/70R16's and it dropped to 18MPG.

2019 V6 Tacoma, same story...20MPG stock and dropped to 16.5MPG after upgrading to 285/75R16's.

Toyota has made no progress whatsoever in improving gas mileage in their trucks in the last 20+ years (until the 2022 Tundra of course)

    I had a 2005 Chevy before this Tacoma, I was getting around 18-20 MPG with a V8.

There is a 1-3 mpg difference between my LT255/85r16 mud-terrains (Dick Cepek Extreme Country) and my P265/70r16 all-terrains (Goodyear Wrangler Adventure). I put the all-terrains back on about a month ago. I can feel the difference in acceleration, hear my radio again, and it even turns smoother when navigating my underground garage. Yes, tires make a big difference in performance.
