Surround is out. Hoping to get the new shower valve in and niche framed out this evening, then on to durarok the tub surround and waterproofing it

Have tried using a PVC pipe? While flexible, one should be rigid enough to push through that mess. Either run the Romex through the pipe, or use the pipe as a fish stick (tape) and pull the Romex with the pipe.

Or, get a set of rigid push sticks (mine are from Greenly).

Maybe you answered this question already. Why is there insulation in those walls?

I had the perfect PVC pipe laying around. It worked great.

My guess would be for sound deadening. There are bedrooms on either side. The back wall is a closet so not needed there.

Some of the new Eaton AFCI/GFCI receptacles are made so that you cant loop the screw without a lot of difficulty. They want you to back stab them like the old days. I like Eaton for a lot of things, but I'll stick to Leviton for outlets.

In one of my parents last place, the main floor powder room was right off the family room, and all walls were interior. We insulated it, because no one wants to hear the going ons of a bathroom while watching a show.

Still chugging along. Had a small incident with the pex, hence the lack of insulation at the moment. But all is good now. Waiting on self level to dry before thinset and 1/4” cement board on the floor tonight. Still need blocking behind tub spout as well

I see you are using a Schluter niche , are you using Kerdiboard for the rest of the walls ?

No going with durarok. Will tape and cement seams and the aquagauard all but the niche. Got that for the convenience. Doing the remodel on somewhat of a budget. Including vanity we will be in for under $2k in materials.

Sub floor done and ready for tile. Was tempted to skip the thinset under the cement board but went ahead and put it down. Might as well do it right

I might not be as fast as a guy that does it everyday, but when I get done, it'll be done right. Actually for some contractors it's not even in their best interest to do the job right. Fast and shoddy, get in, get out, onto the next job to make more money.

It’s still a good idea to water proof cement board. Cracks in grout, caulking or any other ways water can intrude behind the tile, can cause problems. Regular grout is pour out and can also absorb water. Any water that can be absorbed, can also be absorbed into the cement board. Which in turn can rot your studs overtime. If you might as well do it right, you might as well add some waterproofing now.

That’s the plan. I have Mapei aqua defense ready to go. I was saying I was showing to waterproof the whole surround, except the schluter niche, but it’s so small it may not hurt to cover it while I’m at it

Following up on this, I did install it today and managed to kill power to the right switch, but not middle. I successfully swapped out both but zapped the shit out of myself.
