ok so it wont be cheap, but you will get better mpg, but it will cost more than you will save

First thing you need to do is to lower the truck, not just down to stock, but lower than stock.
Then you need to get larger wheels with lower profile tires (lower weight)
Then you will want to put a full chassis aero skid (reduce drag)
You want to get a tune done that can improve mpg and shift points

These things will increase your mpg, but to offset the cost your looking at a long time of driving.

Don’t forget to remove all 4wd components, less driveline friction

I think you can get locking hubs for our trucks. That would reduce a bit of drag aswell.

Regear and a tune. My truck has 2.5in lift and 33's and consistently get 18-21 mpg per tank. I try to not drive over 70mph too.

A free thing you can do is to remove your side mirrors (check local laws first, MN says at least 1 mirror with a view of behind you)

Mirrors actually cause a decent amount of drag.

Then they are not doing their jobs. Actually had a buddy stop a Tacoma of all things a couple of years ago on a two mile long straight I remember the call, any way pretty impressed radar at 105. Truck was impounded the driver went to jail. Don't remember the fine but it was in excess of $2500 and loss of license for 5 years so yeah see if you can beat that. He got what he deserved.

I am sorry your friend was a dick/ asshole to the police officer. I have had many run ins with law enforcement over the last 40 years.... been locked up/jail a couple of times for being stupid and have paid my debts to society for my minor mistakes. Let the dice roll at this point.:drunk:

Sorry you don't believe me, but how would I prove that from over 20 years ago?? Why lie about this?? Only reason I got rid of the truck was that it was 3 doors (only 1 suicide rear door) and I had 2 little ones, 1 in a car seat - made getting my daughter in and out from the non-door side a real pain in the ass. Traded it in on a new 4 door Frontier 4x4 that over 10 months got barely 10 mpg combined!!! Traded that gas hog in for a 2000 Tundra with about 16-17 avg mpg.

Hold your horses.... you're going to spend hundreds to save pennies at the pump. it will take you years to break even let alone come out on the + side of this.

    It doesnt make sense.

Yeah he just mentioned it above. I was kinda curious too. But a $7K supercharger sounds way more fun and totally worth it.

Easiest way to increase fuel mileage is to keep speed below 60 mph. Wind resistance plays a much bigger role above this. General calculation based on average cd and frontal area and is not based on a Tacoma but premise will be similar. Lifting and adding bigger tires will increase frontal area, under carriage turbulence and will have a negative effect on these numbers.

Speed increase from 55 mph to 60 mph 3% reduction in fuel economy
Speed increase from 55 mph to 65 mph 8% reduction in fuel economy
Speed increase from 55 mph to 70 mph 17% reduction in fuel economy
Speed increase from 55 mph to 75 mph 23% reduction in fuel economy
Speed increase from 55 mph to 80 mph 28% reduction in fuel economy

Is it really getting as bad mileage as you think it is?

Was the speedo ever recalibrated for the new tire size? If not you are showing less miles per tank then actually traveled which will show lower mpg.

Done and.... done :). Now I get to laugh at you cavemen in your dino-juice powered shit boxes, as I make $650/mo payments for ever . . . wait what? Damn it!

But seriously, when I had the 245 tires that came stock on my SR5 I would see 20-23mpg (combined). The 3.5l mini van motor is actually super good at saving gas if you drive very slowly (vs like the 2ed gen or 4runner). With 265/75r16 E load mud tires , I now get around 17-19 mpg combined when ever I take it out on trips (again slower than usual driving).
