You haven't provided any proof of this production shut down.

    Well you got that right.

You will have to watch it happen when it happens. I don't think F150 Lightings are currently in production, so I guess there won't be anything to see.

Well, I'll see about the F-150 Lightning. My employer put in an order to replace to one of my group's gas vehicles with one.

Oh yeah? Well good luck with that one. I bought a battery powered weed eater, and the battery was supposed to last for 30 minutes. I'm lucky to get 10 minutes run time out of it. I bought a battery powered blower, with the same result. battery powered car? No thank you...

Sure you can. You just put it in the bed of your truck.

    Right? They're making 15k in 2022.

By 2024 they plan on making 80k.

Bear in mind that they're making 900k gas ones right now per year.

    ...

I'm not saying they won't make a great fleet truck, especially for the folks who drive short distances to jobsites from a fleet yard, but need a bed and towing capacity.

I (and the other people in my office) drive our work vehicles from Oakland to as far north or south as Eureka and Santa Barbara (300ish miles each way), but more typically half that or less. We have a gas SUV for the long trips, but have decided to replace our old van with an F150 Lightning. No clue on when it'll actually arrive, but our main concerns are "if we have a job further north that requires the F150, how do we bill for that hour of extra travel time where we're filling up if they don't fit in with a lunch break" and "will our employer install chargers on our floor of the parking lot, or do we have to use the existing chargers at the compact car-sized stalls on the second floor?"

edit: I should note that our SUV has a range upwards of 450 miles, so I can do, for example, a week of drilling 150+ miles away (with a jobsite 15 miles from the motel) and not have to refuel until just before pulling into the parking garage.

Yeah, the extra time it takes to recharge is another bummer for BEV. I think this is one of the reasons Toyota was opposed to BEV in the first place. They were pushing for Hydrogen powered EVs instead. The infrastructure for that is still infancy.

I don’t see all electric trucks being viable for towing for a long time. You need to recharge them at less then 100 miles pulling their rated tow weight. Commuting, yes…..

Yah…let them tow or drive in the winter. Then let them charge it every 100 miles.

Toyota buyers love the hybrid option though and they can’t Make enough of them. That’s the immediate future for trucks and SUVs asked fir anything but commuting

I wonder if people like hybrids because they offer something whether it be efficiency/cost savings, the addition power that some hybrids offer?

Or do they like hybrids because they like owning a hybrid?

Well, the plug-in hybrids ARE. Electric cars. They don’t use gas at all for commuting less then 50 miles. So you have the best of both worlds given what technology is available. Toyota is way ahead of everyone. EVs are easy to make….hybrids take time to get it right.

Looks good, and is obviously a rendering. I don't think TNGA-F will have the bumper mounting points that high up on the frame.

Tesla semis will have upp to 500 miles of range with a 80,000 load.

There are also no full size electric trucks out yet. Saying they can't is like saying that vehicle manufacturers can't figure out how to put anything bigger than a 15gallon gas tank in a vehicle. They'll put larger batteries in. The tabless batteries that Tesla is switching to starting February already help with this.

Just look at the Rivian. Range gets halved doing a simple tow like a mustang on a flatbed.
