Hockey Trash Talk & BS thread

Yesterday, a guy at church was telling me he called the cable provider (Comcast) to complain. I explained the issue is with the NHL and and ESPN, who made this deal. The cable provider has no say or control over this. The NHL and ESPN doesn't care because they know hockey fans will be unlikely to give up on watching the sport over a handful of games. Oh, one more thing: I got my cable bill over the weekend and there was an insert announcing that just about every part of my package - including the charge for AT&T Sports - is going up in January. The total increase is probably close to $15 per month. I am not paying for ESPN+ under any circumstances.

 

Yes that sounds about right, unfortunately.

The only thing I can compare to is aside from hockey. my other love is motocross racing. And they have been shown on NBCSN the past few years, but it isn't always live. But they do show them live, streaming on Peacock every race. So if you don't have a cable service, you pay for Peacock, which costs similar to ESPN+. However, if you already pay for our cable service, you get Peacock as part of the package. So I can still always watch the races live. I feel like that is what ESPN+ should do. I can understand having to pay for people who don't pay for a service at all, and just pay for whatever streaming they want. But if you pay for a tv package with all of the sports channels, it should just be part of it. Or at the very least, be able to somehow still watch your local team when they are only on ESPN+.

 

Fuck cable providers. It baffles me how all of them can justify raising their already outrageous prices, while losing so many existing customers to streaming. It will just drive more people to finally cut the cord.

So I was 2/3 right about USA's goalies. Didn't expect Campbell to get snubbed. Saw last night that it's Helle, Gibson and Demko. I'm still good with it but I thought Campbell should go.

You realize this early in the season the standings don’t mean that much but nice to see the start.
Canes beat the Kings 5-1 tonight without leading scorer Aho and some other regulars, after the Kings just came off a 4-1 win over the FL Panthers. The 3 players the Canes brought up from Chicago Wolves are playing with a lot of energy, I believe this game was the best 3 periods of the entire season. Jack Drury playing his second NHL game scored his second goal, bright prospect there.
