An old ham actor was testifying for the prosecution in court. The defense attorney asked his occupation. The ham said "I'm the greatest actor since Booth." "Modest, aren't you?" asked the lawyer. "Normally yes", replied the ham, "but I'm under oath".

    All this talk of ancestors...
My parents were a product of their times. My mother a gold digger that never ascended to the heights she craved... but she was the most intelligent woman I've ever met. She was curious about everything, especially the natural world and she imparted that to me. My dad was a brilliant business man and entrepreneur, but driven by his ego and confused by social mores. Before them my family came from Viking stock, northern Europeans that worked in obscure and tedious jobs to survive. No one special, just the salt of the Earth...

As a kid, I bragged to everyone about my ancestor being James Marshall, who discovered gold in California. Not true, according to Ancestry.com!
What I CAN confirm with a mug shot, my father served 30 days for being a rum runner in the Post Prohibition era. He bought in San Francisco, transported in a Franklin automobile having blocks between springs and axles, bottled in Oakland, and sold tax free. Damn revenuers!

Speaking of ancestry I am 100% Norwegian. A relative who is a PhD (forget in what) traced our family ancestry back to the Vikings. She even went to Norway to complete her research. So I have Nordic Viking blood running through my veins. It’s something I’m most proud of. I like to think my Viking heritage is the reason for a couple of things. I have a high tolerance to cold due to my Nordic Viking blood. The worst the weather the more I like it. I’ve always been into sailing, boating, canoeing, kayaking, anything to do with water, the sea, lakes, rivers. Many of my forefathers were sea captains. I’ve always felt most comfortable in alpine forests. In my younger days I was known as a beserker (a berserker was a Viking warrior who led warriors into battle in a trance like rage, they were feared by all especially the enemy). Won’t say how I got that moniker but it stuck with me for a lifetime. Now a days I’m just an old retired Viking whose moniker should probably be cream puff. Anyway I don’t think there are many or any famous people in my heritage but am most proud of my Nordic Viking blood.

You’ll get use to it. Every year you’ll be bombarded with that crap. In fact you’ll get even more year after year.

Great story!!! One of my favorite old movies is Thunder Road.

My dad had a run in with the mafia and the mafia run union in Cleveland... in the depression era. Some very serious times for doing business. He survived and a mafia boss ended up owing him. Who knows... maybe your dad shared a glass with mine if he ran through Ohio.

HA! Us Vikings are crazy when the testosterone of youth was flowing. My moniker was Psycho back in the day because of the way I handled a car.

A major discovery from my Ancestry research, I have multiple connections from both sides of my family to a certain major American religion that had its early beginnings in New York State, and subsequently migrated west. I have to this day distant relatives that still live in those locations along the route of that migration, unbeknownst to me before my research. I would have thought my roots were as far removed from that group as could be, but they are there, in great numbers.
It seems that most migrations of peoples over the centuries have been undertaken to escape persecution by dominant religions of the times. I haven't a religious identity myself, so I am ever grateful to not have lived in those times and places in history that would have me suffer the consequences of my free thinking, including so many places even today.

Nothing exciting for me today other than going to dinner at the college's student-run restaurant - last evening of this semester.

More high winds overnight and this AM, scattered chairs, small tables, umbrella stands, etc. No real damage. Gotta wonder when winds pick up, after the recent tornados. I'll check everything again first light. Blew out rain gutters again yesterday, weather was conducive. Leaves are down, so not really much left to blow out. Should be good until next year's crop.

Two older couples were out for a morning walk and chat, women out front, men following.
Tom: "Watched a movie last night, best one in a while".
Henry: "What was the name of it"?
Tom: "What's that flower that grows in the garden with the thorny stalk"?
    Henry: "A Rose".
Tom: "Hey Rose! What was the name of the movie we saw last night"?

I like the pull cord handle. Would not mind having one of them on my roto tiller.

Medicare has an excellent tool to evaluate multiple plans from different vendors. Because of the cost of eye drops she uses she changed prescription plans and we saved close to $1000.00. I could have changed and saved $40 but my primary pharmacy would have changed to Rite-Aid. Not worth the $40 to change from Harris Teeter as my primary pharmacy.

You know it is going to be an easy day when all you have to do is roll up a 100ft extension cord and put a new handle on a shingle axe for a friend.

A little something every chance we get.
:pccoffee: Good Morning Porchies! Long list of little things that haven't gotten far in this weeks weather today. Supposed to be more dry than wet here, so maybe I get somewhere. Been sooooo thick, I got wet raining or not.

My sister and I are all that's left of family. We haven't done any research past our lives. All Danish immigrants. Only ones of note were my Grandpa and his brothers. Grandpa John S. (Dugan) founded and ran Greenville Glove Works, which eventually sold into Wolverine. Seems they made some good shoes you might have heard of. He knew every employee by name. Brother Mike was a tinkerer who ran and fixed all the machines. First Buick dealer in Michigan. You bought the cars in Flint, and delivered them personally then. Brother Chet left Michigan for Arizona, to become one of the first Park Rangers in the Grand Canyon. He was ambidextrous, and could thrill kids by writing two different things at the same time. The rest of us were just really great people....

Got the table home for the son. Have to get it into the shed, and out of the garage!

Good morning fellow Porchies!! More concrete poured yesterday on the new bridge on our road. Almost complete - maybe another 2 weeks. We'll be glad to stop having to detour around to get to the house.

    Enjoy the day!!

unfortunately, you can’t buy them Separately.
    So 80 bucks..for a clutch.
Going to try something first. Ordered 3 different springs for a buck a piece.
If I can get one to work I’ll be happy.
    Big storm coming Saturday night.
Waiting on parts for another blower.
I want to get that back to the guy before the storm…
Dono.. Maybe I’ll let him use one of mine for this one…
Going to be an interesting weekend….
