Just picked up my son a arrma senton for christmas, I opened it so I could make sure my charger will work with it. This thing is huge! After we run it for a little bit, I might pick up a mojave 6s so I can race with him around the park.

Playing devil's advocate here.... Does that help the kids interest in the truck you got them or give them immediate remorse for asking for the lesser truck?

Teach them there are greater things to work towards?

Disclaimer; my dad just never got me an rc worth a damn as a kid. Now I get them for my self without discretion.... I also don't have a kid myself so I should probably just stfu. But I always wondered what the kid thought when they didn't get a truck quite as good ... My dad didn't want to play trucks with me either....so I don't know what that's like... So good on you for joining the kiddo in a shared hobby I'm genuinely curious how the kiddo handles seeing dad come home later with something like that...

Thats a good point and I thought about it too. I was thinking of maybe getting myself a senton 3s, it will look just like his, but be faster than his. But, I can limit my speed to keep pace with him. On the other hand, I can do that with the mojave, but the mojave being a bigger than the senton might give him some car envy. If I got a senton, when he wants more speed we can upgrade his with new brushless stuff to match mine.

Might be more fun in the long run to have matching cars.

EDIT: I just spec'ed out a senton 3s with battery, and its half the price I would pay for the mojave with batteries (mojave takes 2)

I'm always grateful to see parents introducing their kids to things like this as something to share in the fun.

Ive tried a few times to introduce him to RC (he is 7 now) I got him and his sister associated sc28's, they loved them, but the wheels kept falling off and charging them was a pain. Then I got him a rage 4wd rc car from the hobby shop, it got discontinued shortly after we got it, so no parts support :(.

This time my wife was not involved with the buying of the rc car, so he is getting something real, with proper support, and good parts.

Yeah that's a perspective I hadn't considered. A kid whose dad has them can experience them before someone who has to convince dad too

I try to get the kids out fishing with me, but unless its a non-stop bite, they are not as interested. I figure if we both have these RC cars then I can spend time outside with him instead of just playing roblox with him.

Well starting with a decent kit is half the fun. It's not the cheapest hobby (if there is such a thing these days) and I think too many lose interest when they start with a cheap entry level rtr and it breaks or doesn't work right out of the box. I've been there myself and have slowly gotten back into it over the past few years.

I've heard a lot of positives about the Arrma line up. More so than Traxxas anyway. Although, Traxxas did make some good nitro stuff in the late 90s and early 2000s.

See I started RC cars in 1988, I started with a few tyco cars (turbo hopper, turbo hammer, typhoon, fast traxx) then got a original rc10, rc10t, and rc10ds. Moved on to a rc10t3, tc3, hpi rs4 mini, a bunch of random bolink cars. I stopped RC before the tc4 came out (2001ish). When I was doing RC, traxxas was the budget crap brand, but they have really taken over the industry now.

I spent so much money on those things as a kid. My wife doesnt understand them or why they cost so much. Thats why the last few cars my son has gotten have been cheapo cars, but this time he gets a much better car and hopefully he gets really into it and starts wanting to buy kits to build himself (like we had to when I was a kid).

He really wants a airplane or a boat, but im going to say no to the airplane, but I will probably say yes to a pair of boats this summer, we can race and fish.

I am going to pick up my daughters last part of her christmas present (she got a new bedroom set) so I am going to pick up a senton 3s because the hobby shop is just a few miles from ikea.

Went to the track last night for the first time in a couple months. The track was over-watered which was annoying. But it was still nice to get out there. Hopefully after Christmas I can make it more of a routine thing and try to hit up some Wed night races.20211216_175851 copy.jpg

Do you have any experience with Protek servos from amainhobbbies? I've been thinking of swapping this hitech on my Tekno mt410:

    https://hitecrcd.com/products/servos/digital/coreless/d951tw/product

    for one of these protek's:

    https://www.amainhobbies.com/protek...MInbz13_D_9AIVdT6tBh2NswADEAQYASABEgKkpfD_BwE

    https://www.amainhobbies.com/protek...brushless-servo-ptk-170tbl/p-qqaeq2qagmzxactz

The hitec works fine, but I'd prefer something slightly faster.

I had always liked hitec until my most recent customer service issues... They denied my warranty claim on a servo that I felt they should have warrantied.. they seem to not be on the cutting edge at the moment though. So many direct power 800oz/in. I'm actually considering the protek as a replacement. I know some folks who are pleased with them... I was considering the 370 I believe for my wraith with larger 2.2 tires...

The stock axial shocks don't hold oil well at all. Look at some Traxxas big bores or dravtech.
