33x12.5 on 5100s w/ stock coils (Yes I'm that guy)

Yeah I'm gonna be this guy for a minute. Before I get 1000000 comments claiming "bro search forums" "don't post sh*t before googling it", I have been trying to figure out if 33x12.5s will fit on 5100s with stock coils for the past few hours. Can't find any solid responses. It's either "yes, just a bit of trimming w/ spacers" or "no absolutely not. Impossible."

Truck is a 99 2.7, 5100s @ 2.5", stock coils, stock UCA, I have a set of 1.25" Spidertrax spacers (to prevent UCA rub with a 12.5"). Stock 15x8 wheels.

Not seriously wheeling it... Gets taken on the beach and the occasional mountain fire road.

Plan is 881s or Eibachs in the future, but I'd like to put the 33"s on now.

Can someone just give me a firm yes or no? I'm not opposed to cutting, bashing the pinch weld, etc. Just would like for someone to confirm before I spend $800 on tires.

Nice truck:thumbsup: Short answer yes. Are those wheels the 16x7? or 15x7? Auto or Tranny? Gear ratio?

it says on the side of the wheel, ik my stock wheels were 15x7 if its 7 even better for space. You will have a problem with rubbing the uca maybe but ik youll rub the frame and maybe the firewall, just add the spacers.

Now its your truck do whatever makes you happy, but imo eventually youre gonna see the bigger thicker tires are gonna be heavy, Id stick to 31x10.5, if you dont want spacers just get a negative offset.

Yeah I think you're right about the wheel size, just did a little research... for some reason I thought they came with 8" wide wheels stock. I really do want to go up to the 33"s though. Might be impractical as hell, but hey, what fun is being practical lol. And yeah the spacers will definitely be necessary

33s "usually" require doing the pinch weld mod, adding spacers pushes the centerline out so now you introduce rubbing on the fender/flares (rear mostly is never an issue) so may have to trim as well. you won't entirely know until you get the tires mounted and on, just know you "may" have to do some trimming

    33s for 800 bucks?

    That's cheap.

Goodluck with your findings; there are guys running much skinnier 33s and still needed to do the pinch weld mod.

I've got a buddy working at a tire shop... pretty great connection to have. But yeah, I've still been doing research and found multiple people running 33x12.5s on 5100s and Eibachs. Just wondering how much height the Eibachs have over the stock coils on 2.5"

You don't really net any more room for larger tires though, here read this -

    https://adventuretaco.com/guide/what-size-tires-fit-my-lifted-tacoma/

At 2.5" of lift, I'd be afraid for your cv axle boots.

I've actually read that multiple times lol. What I've heard is that rubbing isnt a problem on the road (with just a suspension lift), but once you flex the truck a bit, they rub

He will absolutely need to do (at least) a pinch weld mod for tires that big no matter what lift and wheel combo he chooses

What most people mean when they say "the rubbing isn't a problem" is actually that it usually doesn't rub enough for them to care.

For what it's worth, my 32's rubbed the frame in parking lots, and that was highly annoying, even with 1" lift. It stopped when I did a combo of my Kings set at ~2.5" and uniball UCAs. Though I don't know for sure if they still rub as I never removed the shock to fully cycle the suspension/steering to check. I just have yet to hear it rub on or off road, so "it's not a problem" lol.

You don't need ANY lift to get 33's to fit. There are guys running 35's at about stock height, but they do a bunch of cutting.

So take the statement "it doesn't rub" with a HUGE grain of salt. There are too many variables, and no 2 trucks are really alike. Tire diameter/width, wheel width/backspacing, lift amount, specific components (like UCAs), and alignment figures, and how much cutting and hammering you're willing to do all affect if/when/where a tire might rub.

Yes it will rub in multiple spots. To include UCAs: spacer May help a little bit probably not enough. Will def have to do a cab mount chop. And bumper will probably need to be trimmed, and you will rub the frame when turning.

I had 33x12.50s on 15x8 MT Sidebiers with the right backspacing and still had rubbing with coilovers set to about 2.5”. Ended up with 13.50s before selling it but it will require some cutting for sure without a doubt.

You know you're in the first gen section right?

Cab mount chop is most definitely not a thing on 1st gens. Rubbing the UCa is also not likely to be a thing unless you're running 2nd/3rd gen wheels on a 1st gen.

You have a Dmax, posting in the 1st Gen section, talking about 2nd/3rd Gen mods.

I have 5100's with stock TRD coils and 33 x 12.5/15 K02's Yes, it worked for me...with some wheel well smacking and 5100's placed at highest setting. Mine is a PreRunner though; I would not approach it this way with 4wd.

Prerunner implying you have the 3.4? I may have a bit more lift due to the lower weight of the 2.7. What else is different about the 4x4 and Prerunner? I thought all suspension was pretty much the same

I'm not opposed to a bit of rubbing and cutting the bumper, inner fender. And you're right about the guys on 35's and up with stock height. Check out Justin Braun on youtube. 37"s with like 2.5" of lift I think? Now I just wonder how much cab modification (bashing) will be necessary. Not really wanting to have to tub the cab for new tires.
