Any woodworkers?

Only thing i can think of is the blade is thinner. Might add a washer to under the nut. Thats your drive shaft so its going to spin. If its not making good 90° cuts or squealing then id suspect bearing

 

This is how I change the the blade. I have the blade locked while I am tightening the nut. The shaft on the left is not supposed to turn while the blade is still.

 

On my old craftsman I blocked the blade from the front and tightened into it. It's not the bearings I assure you.

 

When I am tightening the nut, the shaft on the left of the blade turns with the nut. It won’t tighten securely if the shaft is turning with the nut.

 

Blocking from the front or rear of the blade doesn’t work. The pulley on the blade shaft turns while I am trying to tighten the blade.

 

But with it turning, I can’t get the nut on the blade tight. This is the first time this has happened.

 

I took a link out of the belt and that helped a lot.

 

If you're blocking the blade and the shaft is still turning then the nut has bottomed out and is not holding the blade tight. Unless your shaft is broken. The belt just drives the shaft. You have to stop the shaft from turning. Try a washer under the nut that just contacts the blade.

 

if you really want it to stop, clamp a vice grip on outside of blade pulley, just dont mess up the Vgroove

 

The shaft isn't keyed, and or doesn't have an allen key hole in the end? Every Table saw I've owned had either a key or allen key hole... maybe I buy cheap stuff though.

 

No key, this is the first time in 20 years it’s done this on me. I think it’s ok now.

 

How did you fix it?

 

Took a link out of the belt. It helped some, I still can’t tighten it as much as I need to.

 

Remove another link?

 

The saw has been struggling for a week or two. Completely stopping and rpm’s dropping way down while ripping 1” oak or walnut. I changed the blade (a Re sharpened one), last week and it didn’t help. I put a new blade on today and that’s when I started having the problem of tightening it.

 

Perhaps this is the perfect excuse to trade up to that SawStop that you been long drooling over!

 

I understand that. I also used a blade stabilizer on mine, was like a big flat washer about 4" in diameter and I bet that helped with the tightening of the blade as well. But with the other symptom you are describing I'll bet the motor is getting tired. Does the motor stop or just the blade? Blade stopping could be worn pulleys, I changed mine out with some grizzly cast iron pulleys. Motor stopping is a whole other issue and it may be time for a new motor or saw upgrade.
