Inconsistent bite point, especially under heavier load.. like taking off on a hill. The accumulator causes lag between your foot and the clutch, in a nutshell.

As others have said, its the inconsistent bite point that's an issue for most people. When my accumulator was still in I absolutely could not get a smooth downshift and some upshifts were clunky. Even with 100% focus I couldn't seem to get consistent shifts. It actually got into my head a little bit, until I got in my other truck (old Ford) and had very smooth shifts. If the accumulator doesn't bother you, then just leave it alone.

With the accumulator my clutch shuddered when starting on steep hills and for the life of me I could never do a smooth rev match downshift. Also, was a slight clunk when shifting from 5-6. All that is solved when I removed that POS.

I would highly recommend this mod as it makes your clutch consistent AKA normal clutch.

SR with the 2.7 comes without that POS, it really is useless and it only helps the noobs.

Toyota correctly assuming that anyone driving a 2.7 5 spd is no doubt possessed of great skill, daring, fortitude, courage, compassion, perspicacity, wisdom, effervescent bonhomie, deference to the elderly, and kindness toward all creatures.

The explanation is literally in the 1st Post of the thread.

Beyond that, Bimmers have restrictors in their clutch lines also . . .

When I started looking at the gen 3 in 2020 I test drove a manual. It wasn’t exactly what I wanted but I asked the salesman if I could test drive it anyway just because I have not driven a manual in years.

I learned to drive on a 74 hilux with hydraulic linkage and later several heavier work trucks with the mechanical and hydraulic. The 2020 I drove just felt “different “. I couldn’t really feel the clutch engaging. It was smooth but just felt different.

That was the main reason I wasn’t interested in the manual transmission. Had I known at the time that there was an accumulator that could be bypassed, I may have leaned more towards the manual because I enjoy driving them.

Even with the ADM, there is not much feel with this clutch. The ADM helps greatly because it is now consistent, so muscle memory can be used instead of second guessing WTF is going on. Basically, it feels natural.

I know someone that just got a ClutchMasters swap in along with the ADM. I would like to have another test drive with it. It felt kinda close to mine when I drove it the first time. We were concentrating on pulls and the moist weather, so the accumulator didn't get to rear its ugly head.

i agree and for me the ADM was definitely not enough. but all is fully attainable on this truck for the MT/driving enthusiast. @ThreeBeers (maybe for next time?)
