4th Gen. Tacomas (2024+) Spy Shots

Is it too late to request an option? My kids are getting bigger and 1’ of more interior space would be appreciated.

So if the 4th gen Tacoma Is a hybrid will we call it the Prius Tacoma trd sorta like the stupid bronco raptor

 

3rd gens powertrain is not adequate? In what sense?

 

Maybe they will call it a Tacoma Edison or Taco Bell or follow Toyota's existing format such as Camry Hybrid, Rav4 Hybrid, Highlander Hybrid, etc. Who cares what the vain people think as long as they build a hybrid so owners don't have to fret about how much it will cost to get there and back.

 

I find it more than adequate. Though people coming from V8s will find the bottom end a little soft. All my Toyota’s I have owned over the last 30 years like to be revved, so I am used to it. Got into it last night for my wife…she was like holy shit, this thing is quick! It is pretty zippy for me. Though usually drive like a one foot in the grave retired Floridian…

Pretty sure if they go to a turbo 4/and or hybrid it will cure that soft bottom. Was watching a towing video on the new Trunda. It will pull grades at 2500 rpm or so, where it used to do it at 4500. Typical Americans like low end grunt, while Euros and Japanese like to rev the snot out of things.

 

I think the high revs make the cab sound like a tin can. It also drones out like a cow missing its calf.

 

I also find it more than adequate, plenty of power, especially at higher rpms. All the Japanese vehicles I’ve owned and drove needed to be revved to make most of its power, nothing new here. If you want torque at idle then get an inline 6, but then you got no passing power.

My truck drove great, even on stock tune. I’m always surprised to see that folks call Tacoma a slug. 0-60 in what 6.8 seconds? Haha, yep a slug…

With the full Otto cycle tune this v6 really wakes up, I’m very confident driving it in city and highways. Felt the same on stock tune.

Turbo would definitely fix the “soft” low end but I’m not sure how I feel about it reliability wise. I’m excited to see what 4th gen taco has to offer.

 

I feel that

 

I like the soft bottom, not much in a hurry these days…leave the stops fairly gently, where I see many like to race from stop light to stop light wasting fuel, and I typically roll right up beside them. lol!

Feels like a 250 2-Stroke to me, soft on the bottom, then hits at the mid range and keeps on pulling through the top. There have been a few times it has surprised me, go to pass someone jam down the throttle and the thing is going way faster than I want to. Not quite used to it yet over my 1st Gen.

Seems like a lot of people come from the sports sedan market, then expect the Tacoma to be the same. It is a midsize truck which is meant to be a dead reliable run around vehicle. Years and years ago Toyota truck owners wanted something that just worked without much fussing and didn’t care about much else. The demographic sure has changed since I have driving them 30 years ago that is for sure.

If the 4th Gen gets a turbo, wouldn’t worry too much about reliability, Toyota has been building turbo diesels for decades.

Yeah in the city driving I tend to coast as much as I can and use the brakes as least as possible. Of course without pissing people off behind me.

I previously owned 07 b4000 with a 4.0 and it did have its peak torque at 3200, but the engine was out of breath at 5k rpms, passing power sucked on highways. Never owned a 2 stroke, so I have no idea how it feels like, but I heard that saying before.

The newest vehicle I’ve owned was that b4000, so in comparison this Tacoma is a spaceship. Honestly l, if it had like 5-6 more inches of legroom in the back, this truck would’ve been absolutely perfect for me. It’s usually just my wife and I so not a big deal. I’ll be keeping this truck for 15-20 years minimum, so we will see how reliable it will be.

You are right about Toyota turbo diesels. Couple of my off-roading/camping buddies own LC 80 series and those things are indestructible. But I would still prefer a N/A engine.

Now 1990 mazda b2200 that I owned, had 85 hp and 118 tq… that’s a freaking slug. I remember had about 5-6 people in the back (high school fun times) and that truck barely moved hah.

After getting my license suspended for drag racing in my ‘71 Chevelle when I was a teen, and almost loosing it again in my mid 20s for having too many points. Drive the speed limit now. If people get pissed off at my law abiding driving style, fuck ‘em! I don’t care. They aren’t the ones paying for the speeding ticket if I get one, ya know.

From my past experience Toyota’s usually are good until about 200-250K, then they start nickel and diming ya. Never had any problems with the engine or trans, it is all the stuff around it.

My original plan was to keep my 3rd Gen 15-20 years. Think I am only going to go 10 (or roughly 200K miles) Real curious what will be out there 10 years, hybrid or pure EV interests me. Of course may buy a Transit or Sprinter at that point of life and hit the road.

 

That was the main reason I went with Tacoma's dead nuts reliability and was able to get a MT. Also I remember some Gas Turbo's Toyota Trucks in the 1980's but not sure how many years they were available.
