Let me start off by saying I do have the correct size chains for my tires.

so the issue is that on the inside linkage for connecting the chains, there are extra links left over just hanging loosely… this would cause me to hit my shock or something else when driving.

should I just cut the excess links off?

    Any tips are appreciated.

I would think you should definitely cut the excess links off or maybe attach them to the other links so they don't whip around.

are the excess links in a spot where you'd need them when putting the chains on? like to incrementally tighten the chains or something

Cutting them off is my first idea. They aren't anywhere that would cause the chains to be vulnerable for strength wise and its just extra links i guess in cause for the variety of tire sizes the chains are for. They fit my stock tires properly, so i will probably cut the links. I think i should probably go and test fit then drive a few feet and then make sure they are correctly adjusted then cut the extra links or ziptie them to the rest? What do you think about that idea and not needed to incrementally tighten

Just get a couple clevises or whatever there called. No cutting and will secure the links in case you ever get bigger tires.

Yep that’s it, more secure than zip ties

I would definitely use zip ties before cutting. Never know when you might need a couple of extra links.
Edit: Those links are better than zip ties

Zip ties work as long as you lock a chains in the directions the wheel turn.

Don’t cut the links. You may need the excess when chaining up in less than perfect conditions. Go to a truck stop and buy some heavy black rubber bungee cords and use them to secure the loose ends.

Update: got 2 of these one for each tire and they work perfectly. Smaller size though 97B20295-5535-41EC-B3EF-5A0A1356D69F.jpg
