Yeah I've had to put in a bit more than 5.5 to fill 'er up before to the full line. I've never worried about it

Were you parked on a flat surface? Front end jacked up or on ramps?

1st gen - it's got a built engine, a turbo, and waaaaaaay too much to list. 3rd gen - basic-bitch lift, S/C, Pro Wheels
With things that have dipsticks or site gauges the capacity in the manual is more of a good starting to point to me. Don't think I've ever added exactly what the manual says. I always pour in what the manual says, but maybe minus a half quart or so, then start checking the dipstick and adding until it's where it should be. Never questioned it, and I've never had an issue that can be attributed to under\over serviced oil...

I wouldn't worry about it, as long as its reading full on the dipstick. I'd be more concerned if you put 6qts in and were still reading low

I've had it where I put 5.5 in, started up the engine and then saw it was reading a bit low. Figured it was the oil filter filling up with oil which resulted in me having to put more in.

Remains to be seen I bought the tires and wheels the rest came along
I use 5.5 quarts on my 3.4 Engines never had a issue .

I might be off a few ounces guessing at the 1/2 quart level then I let things set over night till I check the level after starting to test for leaks

I don't sweat these things anymore. Fill it to the middle between the lines and always have a spare on hand for margins of error.

Not many places to disappear to without a noticeable puddle on the floor.

I use 6 quarts but I also run a slightly extended oil filter with a tad bit more capacity. It fits, albeit snugly. The filter is a Mobil 1 M1-209A and I do 8,000 mile changes.

I doubt the exact capacity of our motors is 5.5qts. Toyota knows some oil is gonna sit around in the motor so 5.5 qts is just a good starting point to make sure you at least have enough oil in it after an oil/filter change to prevent damage. I top it off and make sure it's right below the full line which is almost always 5.6-5.8 qts.

5vz in my tacoma has always taken exactly 6qts, my 4runner that I swapped in a 5vz from a t100 always takes 5.5qts, they have different oil pans though, so it might depend on application and oil filter used. Also the t100 engine doesnt have an oil cooler as my tacoma does.

    Edit T100 engine is from a 96
