MT Accumulator Delete Mod (ADM) and BS Thread

I used kit from Trident as well, no problems with it. Looking to get my accumulator done just because it’s sitting around doing nothing useful. I doubt I’d swap it back but would be better to have it ready to go.

 

There are lots of shots of what the accumulator is supposed to look like after the dremmel but not much of what the process looks like from disassembly. The following pics may help folks visualize what needs to be done. The unit comes from the factory fully assembled. Once you get the four 10 mm bolts undone the little pressure plate is magnetic so use a magnet to remove it if it doesn’t come out with a few shakes. Remove the metal ring and gasket. Can place some qtips in the holes and cut off the ends prior to dremmel to stop shavings from getting in the holes or you can just rinse the unit afterword using the line holes on the sides. Just remove the rubber grommets.

Of note, be careful of the aluminum ring that touches the most lateral hole. You don’t want to dremmel through that ring. A full uncut qtip in the lateral hole provides some insurance as a bump stop. If I were to do it again, I’d leave the qtip uncut in the lateral hole and nothing in the center hole. Just rinse everything well after.

Per @tonered the depth of the trough you create should ideally be approximately the diameter of the holes you’re joining.

You have a stock accumulator from a 3rd gen?

 

Sorry, no, I'm in a 2010. I had originally replied thinking that this option was for a new milled and drilled replacement for the accumulator, I don't want to have any unnecessary down time.

 

Be sure that you have the same part number. The 2nd Gens had about three different ones?

 

Been running a tune for about 2k miles and it helped a lot, still need to get around to doing this. I've drove MT my whole life and never have I killed the engine in reverse this much.

 

Thought I was the only one there.

I'm almost ashamed to say I've still got to do this (mods are backed up) and will dremel it. Anyone using a mill, just be careful it's really easy to take off more metal than you want.

The hardest part was figuring out how to take apart a few dash pieces. Ha!

 

That, and I spent some time redoing the routing to keep the harness slack and to prevent chaffing. In all, very much worth it.

 

2Lo is probably the easiest "technical" mod there is.

I'm an absolute moron and it took me no time and no struggle.

Other than opening the dash it's literally plug and play. The install is easier than backing a trailer uphill without it is. So it pays for itself immediately.

 

That's some next level confidence to drink and wrench.

I barely trust myself to fill the tank correctly (thanks for accommodating me, Oregon!)

 

Any of ya’ll removed the clutch pedal spring along with your adm and have run it that way for a while?

If you do that then you need some sort of smaller spring to pull the mc all the way back out. It's a bypass port of some kind that has something to do with relieving pressure.

I believe that spring is called a break over spring and will actually make pedal effort easier past a certain point (while holding the clutch on the floor) but helps to pull the pedal up prior to that point

 

That’s what I gathered from that thread as people were saying that the pedal is much firmer, and a little further in after the spring is removed.

I’d still like to hear if anyone has done this and their overall impressions over a long period of time + if there’s been any issues or anything like that.
