Why is the serpentine belt tensioner pulley bolt reverse thread?

The wheel studs on my truck are stamped with L and R but if you didn't know about it you wouldn't think to look lol.

 

I still can't wrap my brain around why they thought that would be helpful.

The wheel isn't spinning around the stud, counter clockwise trying to unseat the nut. It's bolted to all the studs and the studs are spinning around the hub

Funny, the nut that holds the rotor in place on spinning fishing reels is often reverse threaded for this very same reason.

 

Good to know all this. More reasons to let the Toyota shop do my work.

 

In most cases you can put the fixture bolt in then the pully after you have it assembled you tighten the inner bolt with an open end wrench it will have to adjusted for tension any way.

 

same deal with fan clutch on the water pumps.

 

With a torque wrench mr curious.

I did that, that wasn't the reason

 

The problem was not in the wrench switch but because of the flexing of the tensioner, which I hadn't locked

 

check the manual NEWB

 

I have quite a few torque wrenches. A couple have noted in the manual to not use for reverse torque.

 

A digital wrench works better than a click type under some circumstances. With a mechanical click. You are fighting to over come the detent.

Again, in this circumstance. I’d just crank it down by hand. If I were really worried about it. It apply a drop or two if thread locker. But I’ve found the majority of people use WAY TOO MUCH thread locker.

Never the less, crank her down and move on.

 

Depends on torque wrench, some are made for both directions. But main thing is dont use it as a breaker bar
