Big difference in ECT

    Drove a section of the Oregon coast range today and was pretty surprised with the ECT mode helping to generate power and hold gears. I know a lot of people have had mixed results or felt no benefit/difference at all, but when used as suggested in “hilly or mountainous driving” I think it really helps the truck out a lot. I’m really curious to see if it helps out while towing

    Definitely makes a difference. It should be more noticeable like the rav4 with sport mode

    All of them.
    It just changes shift points and holds gears longer. Doesn't add any power or torque.

    I have definitely been considering the Kdmax tune in particular. So many people have raved about it. Even in ECT the truck still felt like it was working harder than it should on the steeper climbs.

    Been feeling this myself lately. I never used ECT for my first 15k miles, but lately I turn it on quite regularly. Especially when I know I want to hold RPMs a bit longer.

    I was thinking of getting a tune (KdMaxx) but lately have given up the thought because of my experience with ECT. If I wanted something fast, it wouldn’t be a 3rd gen Tacoma (with or without a tune).

    If you have driven the KDMax Pro you will NEVER go back to stock and will drink the tune Koolaide. Even with a manual transmission too. Read the first review on the KDMax thread - guy with a manual transmission.

    ECT is a major difference. Not only that, but over the year, I have compared running regular octane level first premium and that also makes a difference and it does so strictly because of the VVT. I live at 6k feet and I am happy with the way this truck runs on stock tires and stock gears. But without ECT is is stupidly sluggish.
