I have been practicing Morse code via the Koch method, and have 8 characters left not including the prosigns. I can finally see the light at of end of the tunnel, and might reward myself with a Elecraft KX2.

I have the TM-D710G in my 1992 Toyota Pickup, FTM-400XDR in my Tacoma, TM-V71A in the house, and TM-281 is going in the wife's car. Of all those, my favorite is the 710G. The 400 is coming out today as I found a guy to trade for another 710G. So... I really like the Kenwood too. Haha.

That's a nice HF radio from what I hear though I've never operated one. When I learned CW and wanted a QRP radio, I built a QCX-mini. The rest of my (3) HF radios are non-QRP. Congrats on the Morse learning. It's a mind bender for me. The majority of my contacts have been through SKCC.

I have looked at the QCX as well, which is definitely a little easier on the wallet haha.

After reading this post and searching Elecraft, I drive by their shop on the way to go diving. I'm going to stop in and discover their products.

If you figure out a way to eliminate 3rd gen fuel pump noise on HF, please report back. I'd at least recommend testing out HF before putting time into an elaborate install. It's brutal.

Is that Yaesu too much for a total newbie? I’m still studying for technician.

Well, a lot of new hams start with a handheld and then buy another in a month or two of getting their ticket. Price seems reasonable if the condition is acceptable. If it were me, I’d definitely consider it. You only need the radio, antenna, and cabling.

The tech test is wayyyyy easier than programming a all-in-one remote hahaha. But it will get you prepared for some of these radio menu screens.....
