Exactly why I put things like a locking gas cap on...

Angle tells me there's no way this was natural... I'm guessing it was either someone bitter from here at the house, someone who got kicked out and recognized my truck around town, or someone who doesn't like Bitcoin (which seems to be lots of people these days, but I couldn't have predicted the level of crypto-hate when I got my BTC- themed personalized plates). Anyone have any ideas for best way to buff this out? I mean I got scratches all over the truck, but prefer to minimize them if I can.

Based on the conundrum that you have going on here alone I'm going to guess the person who keyed your truck was a Karen who was also an ex- girlfriend of yours who was mad at you because of the fact you probably exploded her mind with the conundrums you probably laid on her on a regular basis.

All jokes aside, what the guy above me said. Paint pen or touch up paint is your best bet.

 

Yeah that's true, and maybe I just look for a "rational" explanation when oftentimes there really isn't one. Santa Cruz used to be a fairly chill/ weird but lovable place. Now it's headed down the toilet in a number of ways, unfortunately. I came out of the laundromat shortly after getting the truck and found someone had thrown something like a thick milkshake all over it? Don't know what it was, but I washed it off immediately in case it was akin to brake fluid.

As far as the keying, doesn't seem super deep, might just be the clear coat. Am hoping one of those small polishing wheels that fit on a drill would work, although I do have a large 6" or so orbital

Ugh! That looks deep like it's gone through the clear coat? I used a scratch remover product one time, and all that did was remove some of the clear coat to minimize seeing the scratches. There are some polishes that help to fill in the scratches that you might also try?

I had a car attacked for stopping at a Star Bucks in the wrong part of town. It was so bad that I had to have front of the car repainted.

 

Ha yeah it the username was intended as a joke initially, but probably confuses too many people. Crypto is what paid for my truck; I am far from wealthy, but BTC and ETH gave me some fantastic returns by getting in early.

Luckily I have a good relationship with my ex, insofar as we just don't see each other anymore. She did comment about the truck though, said she liked it. I have inadvertently created many angry people by holding them accountable to the rules at the sober house though... I absolutely can't stand people who refuse to accept responsibility for their own actions, so you can imagine how irritated I generally am since that seems to be most people's default state of mind.

Very similar to a halfway house, although we call them Sober Living Environments or SLEs. Halfway house is more for folks getting out of prison, we are designed as a next step generally for those getting out of drug/ alcohol treatment. It's a good house, compared to others locally, and has been huge in my own recovery (coming up on 5 years off drugs and alcohol) but yeah, despite my best attempts to filter out the most unstable applicants I have kicked out dozens of people in the 3 or so years I've been the manager

Well, IT IS Santa Cruz.. it's kind of a small transient town so it could have honestly been anyone. Not just someone that may know you.

 

Had an LWRC sticker with a bolt face on a previous vehicle that only an enthusiast would recognize, but this is not a friendly area for that kind of sportsman.

Yeah, I guess I am just paranoid. Frankly we do have cameras around the back parking area where I keep it (sort of the middle of the property) but when I checked them I realized it was set to continuously record; not worth sitting there for hours to fast-forward in an off chance I'd catch someone. Updated them to motion capture though.

 

I remember you asking about your locking gas cap not long ago… hopefully you got the stant. People are something else, I had my truck keyed a lot worse by an ex gf an she also grabbed a rock an put several dents in my driver door and bedside. Had to take it to a body shop an get one the bedside and door fixed and repainted (they were the worst) an they buffed out the remainder of the scratches on the cab and hood. Truck looked brand new again afterward. Hopefully it isn’t that bad an some touch up paint and buffing will do the trick for you but it if it’s past the clear coat into the paint the door will likely need to be repainted. Another time some random mofo opened my gas lid and removed the cap and it looked like they tried to siphon it. Hence why I got a locking gas cap so I surely feel for you on having people mess with your sh!t! I now also always park in my garage now an hardly ever leave the truck outside. F’ people!

 

Good experience for those who want it, those who don't will just come and go

 

Yep installed the actual Stant cap last weekend and it's working great so far, much better than the off brand one that didn't even work with the extra o ring I added. And I think next will be one of those (I think Talon is the company making them?) catalytic converter guards, since that theft has been happening all over the neighborhood recently. I guess that's a bit different than worrying about vandalism in one form or another but still, a pain in the ass to have to worry about or spend money to protect the truck. Have a low insurance deductible but I'm not making a claim for something this minor.

 

Absolutely, and it is very rewarding seeing people turn their lives back around, rebuild relationships with family, move up in jobs etc. That's basically what happened for me, too. But we have a more rigid structure than many alternative houses (such as a job requirement, and zero tolerance drinking/ using policy) and this can be challenging for some people, even when I emphasize it over and over again when doing initial interviews and intakes.

 

But that's what you need, it's not fair to those who are really working it and especially those waiting for a spot if someone there is just not doing their thing. Especially the zero tolerance, since that would perhaps have a snowball effect in those surroundings.

 

Dude.. I'm sorry but that damage is more a reflection on you. Maybe you need to reexamine how you treat others?

 

Crypto plates are a good way to single yourself out to get robbed. Same thing with smashed windows on trucks with NRA, Sig/Glock stickers.

Scratch looks deep, you should see professional paint correction. Insurance might help if you have vandalism coverage.
